Victims of human trafficking may not realize they’re being exploited. Every trafficking situation is complex and unique, and numerous factors can affect a person’s ability to identify what they’re experiencing as trafficking.

Some reasons a person may not identify their experience as trafficking include:
🔹 Language barriers
🔹 Limited awareness of what trafficking can look like
🔹 The trafficker is someone they trust, like an intimate partner or family member
🔹 Lack of knowledge about their rights in Canada
🔹 Fear of retaliation from the trafficker
🔹 Isolation from support networks that could help them recognize the situation

If you believe you or someone you know is being trafficked, we are here to support you. Call us at 780-474-1104 or contact the Canadian Human Trafficking hotline at 1-833-900-1010.

Human trafficking thrives where violence and marginalization already exist. Ending it means addressing the conditions that make it possible — and that starts with all of us.

This May 14, take a step. Attend a local Moose Hide Campaign Day event, participate in the national livestream, or complete the We Are Medicine training online. Not as a bystander. As an advocate.

We also extend our deep appreciation to the advocates, front-line workers, and service providers who stand beside victims every day, offering compassionate, trauma‑informed care, and unwavering support.

If you've never been targeted by a s*x trafficker, you may think nothing and no one would ever convince you to have s*x for money. You might be surprised.

S*x trafficking often doesn't begin with violence. It often starts with someone who makes you feel seen, understood, and sometimes loved. Traffickers are experts at manipulation. What can look like romance may actually be a deliberate tactic to exploit.

It can be hard to spot grooming from outside a relationship, but it’s not impossible. Talk to the people you love, your children, your family and friends, your coworkers, and pay attention if something doesn’t feel right.

If you or someone you know needs help, please call us at 780-474-1104 or contact the Canadian Human Trafficking hotline at 1-833-900-1010.

Red Dress Day, observed annually on May 5th, is Canada's National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people (MMIWG2S). Inspired by Métis artist Jaime Black's REDress Project where hundreds of empty red dresses were hung in public spaces, the red dress has become a symbol of both loss and resistance.

This day honours Indigenous women, girls, and two-spirit people, and raises awareness about the disproportionate violence they face in Canada. That violence is not random. It is rooted in the ongoing impacts of colonization, which continue to shape the lives of Indigenous families and communities today.

Honouring these women, girls, and two-spirit people means more than remembrance, it also means taking action. Wear red on May 5th and show up in whatever way you can.

The National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls Final Report is a great place to start if you want to learn more. You can find the report at the link below.
