When Maryam* and her family arrived in Canada after fleeing conflict in Somalia, finding safe and affordable housing was one of their biggest challenges.

Through Civida's community housing program, they found a stable home and the space to start building a new life.

When things got harder, Civida was there too. After Maryam's mother lost mobility, our Community Engagement team helped the family navigate a wheelchair ramp application.

"When I got the ramp, I felt relieved. This is when I realized things are starting to get better."

Civida has been awarded the ARLA 2026 Not-For-Profit Housing Provider of the Year. This is a recognition that reflects our ongoing commitment to building safe and affordable housing. This award celebrates the dedication of our team, partners, and residents who work together every day to make a difference. It’s about more than housing; it’s about helping people feel secure, supported, and at home, and that’s what this recognition represents.

We’re grateful to be recognized among so many inspiring organizations across the sector, and we remain focused on what matters most: creating homes where people can thrive.

Big news for affordable housing in Alberta.

Civida has been approved for more than $45 million through the Affordable Housing Partnership Program (AHPP), a joint initiative between the Governments of Alberta and Canada.

This investment will help create 340 new affordable homes for more than 1,000 Albertans, in partnership with Synergy Projects Ltd. and the Confederacy of Treaty Six First Nations.

Together, we’re helping ensure more people have a safe, stable place to call home.

This month, we're shining a light on a community program available to Civida tenants— Riverbend ROCKS 🌟

They offer free support for kids, youth, and families, including:
- After-school tutoring (English, Social, and Science)
- Friday night youth rec programs for ages 7–18
- Summer programs in July and August
- Intergenerational activities for parents and neighbours
- Youth rec programs at Terwillegar Community Recreation Centre
