ABmunis joined several rural health and municipal organizations for the first meeting of the Government of Alberta’s new Rural Health Collaborative Group last week.
The goal of the group is to improve teamwork between organizations and help ensure people in rural and remote communities have better access to health care. The group will meet up to four times a year to discuss common challenges, priorities, and opportunities that affect rural and remote communities.
The first meeting focused on introductions—each organization sharing its role in rural health, key priorities, and areas of focus. The next meeting, scheduled for November, will begin identifying indicators to track progress over time.
This is a small but meaningful step: effective advocacy isn’t always visible, but it often shows up as a seat at the table. ABmunis will continue to bring forward municipal perspectives to help shape solutions that work for Alberta communities.

Municipal budgets work differently: with no room for deficits or shortcuts.
Municipalities are required to balance their budgets each year. That means they can only spend what they bring in through taxes and other revenue. If they collect less money or need to spend more, they have to increase property taxes or find other revenue streams to make up the difference.
We need to have a conversation about how Alberta's local community services are funded. ABmunis' Property Taxes Reimagined initiative has been created to help Albertans understand how property taxes are structured.

Good morning, and welcome to the second day of our Public Risk Conference!
The conference is designed to provide practical knowledge, tools, and insight to help municipalities navigate the evolving risks facing communities today. But also to exchange ideas and to network.
In the words of Director of Risk Services, Daniel Jackson: “That exchange of ideas - those conversations in the hallways, at the tables, and between sessions - is often where the most valuable learning happens.”
We are excited for another day of collaboration and sharing insights!

“You cannot truly understand risk unless you understand the people, operations, and realities behind it. You cannot plan effectively unless you are willing to listen, ask questions, and learn from others. That’s why I believe what we’re doing here at this conference is so important.
We have people from different municipalities, different disciplines, and different corners of the province all coming together with a shared purpose: to learn from one another, share experiences, and collaborate on better ways to manage risk in our communities.“ - Director of Risk Services, Daniel Jackson
A successful Day 1 is in the books! We sincerely appreciate all of the attendees who made the journey through the weather to join us at the Public Risk Conference. Your engagement, enthusiasm, and participation set the tone for an outstanding event, and we look forward to another great day ahead.
