Before the surgeries, the transplants and the years of fighting, there was a little girl with long blonde hair who loved camping trips, fishing with her dad and running through autumn leaves.
That was Pam.
Pam was born with cystic fibrosis and spent her first weeks of life at the University of Alberta Hospital. She went on to receive a double lung transplant there in 2006 — and for the first time in years, she could breathe freely.
"She was so proud of herself," her father Peter recalls. "She just smiled all over."
Pam passed away in 2021 at the age of 39. Her mother Debbie had died just two years before.
Today, Peter is honouring them both with a gift in his will to the University Hospital Foundation — advancing care in cystic fibrosis, transplant medicine and diabetes research.
"I am doing this to make sure their memories and legacies will matter forever."
This May, we're celebrating Leave a Legacy Month. Could a gift in your will be part of your story?

Our Springtime Celebration was everything we hoped it would be — and more. 💛
Last night at the Kaye Edmonton Clinic, guests were treated to a compelling panel on Caring for Our Hearts, the University Hospital Foundation's initiative, in partnership with Primary Care Alberta and Acute Care Alberta, to build a comprehensive provincial cardiac strategy. Featuring Dr. Kate Storey, Dr. Tina Korownyk and Dr. Robert Welsh, and moderated by Dr. Jodi Abbott, the conversation resonated deeply with everyone in the room.
We also celebrated the outstanding Michelle Stone with the 2026 Audrey Greenough Award of Merit — a moment that truly captured the spirit of the evening.
Thank you to our panelists, our volunteers and every guest who joined us.

Congratulations to Michelle Stone, recipient of the 2026 Audrey Greenough Award of Merit! 🏆
Last night at our Springtime Celebration, Michelle was presented this honour by John Greenough and Amanda Greenough — carrying on a legacy of recognizing the volunteers who make exceptional care possible.
Michelle's creative vision and leadership were central to the success of Festival of Trees, where she led the Tree & Site Design Committee and transformed the event experience for attendees, fellow volunteers and everyone in between. Her initiative, creativity and deep commitment to service are exactly what this award was created to celebrate.
Thank you, Michelle — and thank you to every volunteer who gives their time and talent to the Foundation. 💛

Leaving a gift in your will is one of the most meaningful things you can do — and now it's easier than ever.
The University Hospital Foundation has partnered with Epilogue Wills, Canada's leading online estate planning solution, so you can create your will from home, finish at your own pace, and save 20% automatically at checkout.
Donors like Linda choose to leave a legacy because care changed everything for someone they loved. A gift in your will can do the same for patients and families you'll never meet.

"A gift in your will can be a final act of love and purpose."
Linda's husband Bob spent ten years supported by the extraordinary teams at the University of Alberta Hospital and the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute. When Linda's husband Bob passed away in 2025, she knew exactly how she wanted to honour him — with a gift in her will to the University Hospital Foundation.
This May, we're celebrating Leave a Legacy Month — and the donors who choose to reach forward to patients and families they'll never meet.

Last week, the University Hospital Foundation celebrated the opening of three new cardiac catheterization labs at the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute — a milestone years in the making.
These labs place our teams among the most advanced in Western Canada, with technology that improves safety, enhances imaging precision and opens the door to new frontiers in both adult and pediatric interventional cardiology.
What made it possible? A community of donors who understand that philanthropy and innovation go hand in hand — and a care team that showed remarkable dedication and resilience throughout a complex, multi-phase renovation.
Donor generosity is what bridges the gap between good care and exceptional care. We're proud to celebrate what that looks like in practice.
