On May 20, 2026, two of our dedicated volunteers, Rihab Khachan and Matiullah Sahil, received the Janet Hughes Award from Edmonton's Food Bank for their service to the community.
The award was presented during Edmonton’s Food Bank’s Annual General Meeting by Her Honour, the Honourable Salma Lakhani, Lieutenant Governor of Alberta, Salma Lakhani AOE, B.Sc., LLD (hon), during an evening that recognized the people helping make a difference in the lives of families across Edmonton.
We are grateful to Edmonton’s Food Bank for recognizing Rihab and Matiullah and for the incredible work they do every day to support families across our city. Seeing local organizations and volunteers work side by side to help families is something our whole community can be proud of.

Each month, hundreds of community members turn to IslamicFamily’s food bank. For many, our commitment to offering halal meat is a key reason they choose us. As we continue the blessed tradition of Qurbani and Udhiya, IslamicFamily invites you to fulfill your sacrifice locally this Eid. Your Qurbani can do more than meet a sacred obligation; it can nourish families right here in Edmonton. When you choose to give your Qurbani through IslamicFamily, you are making a direct impact in your own city. Your gift ensures that Muslim families facing barriers to access are still able to celebrate Eid with dignity.
Orders will be accepted until May 22nd. On Eid day, a lamb (approximately 20 kgs) will be sacrificed in your name — or in the name of a loved one — and delivered to IslamicFamily’s Hüb for distribution. Each lamb is $550 (plus platform and payment processing fees.

Join us for a deeply reflective calligraphy workshop with Areej Al Azem as we explore the sacred phrase Labbaik Allahumma Labbaik through art and intention.
Using the Kaaba as our centre, we will create seven circles of calligraphy radiating outward -each layer formed with different brush sizes to reflect movement, devotion, and depth. A deliberate opening in the design will guide the eye back toward the Kaaba, symbolizing the spiritual journey of Hajj and the heart's response to the Divine call.
