Indo-Canadian Women's Association supports the protection of the rights of immigrant women, men and youth.

The ICWA is an organization that helps individuals regardless of their background, gender, race and age. We host classes during the year to help newcomers adjust to the community here and give them a place to make connections. With a couple workshops, events and get-together scattered across the months, we create welcoming places for everyone to interact and feel connected.

Every individual who moves to Edmonton brings a unique story, a wealth of wisdom, and a distinct journey toward building a new life.
This past Tuesday, May 19, the ICWA office was filled with powerful stories and deep reflection. Alongside Noreen and Lun Li (Assistant Professor from MacEwan University’s School of Social Work), we hosted a focus group dedicated to exploring the social resilience of older immigrants.
We moved past abstract definitions and simply chatted with our participants about their everyday lives in Edmonton. How is their social life? How do they feel in their neighborhoods? What have their experiences been with different community organizations?
The discussion touched on some incredibly important points regarding social support, participation, and what it truly means to feel included in a community. We are so grateful to our participants for sharing their hearts and histories with us. Your voices matter! 🌟

Reflecting on a Signature Celebration: International Women’s Day 2026 ✨
The Indo-Canadian Women’s Association (ICWA) was honoured to host our annual signature event this past March at the Woodvale Community Hall, bringing our community together to celebrate the incredible women who shape our world. This year’s theme, "Give to Gain," truly came to life through a day of connection and inspiration. This theme reminds us that when we give our time, mentorship, and support to uplift women, we don’t just help individuals—we strengthen the entire fabric of our community. When women thrive, we all gain.
Highlights of the Day:

A Royal Inspiration: The true highlight was the motivational keynote by Her Honour, the Honourable Salma Lakhani, Lieutenant Governor of Alberta. Her words on leadership, resilience, and the power of giving back deeply moved everyone in attendance.

Award Ceremony: We were proud to hold a special ceremony recognizing outstanding women for their contributions to community growth and leadership.

Art & Culture: From beautiful cultural performances that celebrated our heritage to the mesmerizing live painting, the room was buzzing with creativity.

Silent Auction: Our silent auction was a huge success, with proceeds going directly toward supporting ICWA's vital community programs.

Community & Flavour: We shared a delicious gala dinner and meaningful conversations, fostering the bonds that make our organization so special.

Why Women’s Contribution Matters:Women are the architects of growth—in our homes, our workplaces, and our leadership. By embracing "Give to Gain," we commit to a cycle of generosity that ensures the next generation of women has the doors opened even wider for them.
Thank you to everyone who attended, performed, and contributed to making this year’s IWD celebration unforgettable! Let’s keep giving, so we can all keep gaining.
