Good day all. Just a quick update for those who might be wondering about the activity seen on-site lately. We have moved into the next phase of investigation and data confirmation. The company we are working with is called Askīhk Research, based out of Saskatoon and affiliated with the University of Saskatchewan. In this next phase, we are attempting to confirm what the anomalies seen on the GPR scans are. We have followed protocol and had a lodge and feast at the beginning of the season before moving forward. If you see people on-site, they are our Fieldworkers from Askīhk. They will be doing soil analysis to detect the presence of mammalian remains at GPR hits where anomalies are present. Once they have completed their data analysis, we will have a community engagement to share their results. The analysis is not quick - it will take a few months. The engagement may not occur until the winter months as the analysis and data will be reviewed in the seasons where fieldwork cannot be done (due to the cold and frozen ground).

We ask our members for patience at this time, and to keep clear of the site and workers when they are around. Our focus right now is the open grassy areas around the gym and rink and the former track area. The Fieldworkers are planning to return for another 10 days in August. Again, we ask our Band members and visitors to stay clear of the site so the analysis can take place. We understand that you have questions, so please direct your questions to the Project team, and do not approach our partners from Askīhk. Thank you!

Some great words here in Wah-pii-moostoosis Gym at our Star Blanket Cree Nation Annual Orange Shirt Day Commemoration by Tribal Chief Jeremy Fourhorns and former QIRS survivor. He shared reminders with us all that everything we do, we do in Treaty, and that the IRS systems were failed attempts to walk in Treaty with our people. He shared stories of his time here at the QIRS and commended our Star Blanket Nation for the tough work we have to do in researching and investigating our site.

Thank you Chief for sharing with us today.

We have condensed the Press conference from January of 2023 into a 20 minute video for those of you who didn't catch it. The full press conference is shared on our page as well, but some of the audio was blocked by Facebook at the time. This is the video we shared at the OSI conference in Iqaluit, Nunavut on February 1st, 2024.
