Planning a trip through downtown Grimsby next week? Here’s what you need to know:

🌙 Night work on Mountain Street: Starting Sunday, October 25, at 8:00 p.m., crews will prepare the previously installed watermains for commissioning. Expect rolling lane closures along Elm Street and Main Street overnight.

🚧 Mountain Street closure continues: Mountain Street remains fully closed to through traffic between Elm Street and Main Street while work continues. Cars must follow the designated local detour.

🌙 Main Street and Christie Street night closure: Starting Monday, October 26, the intersection will be closed overnight from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. each night for the remainder of the week. It will reopen every morning.

🚛 Heavy truck detours: Heavy trucks travelling between Mountain Road and the QEW must follow the designated regional detour routes. Check the regional truck detour plan for the appropriate route.

🛣️ Main Street West paving: Paving between Forty Mile Creek and Patton Street is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, October 29.

📍 Plan ahead: Review the traffic and detour maps before travelling, allow extra time and follow posted signage and traffic control.

Watermain installation on Mountain Street is moving along!

Crews have advanced quicker than anticipated, reaching the south side of the Main Street and Christie Street intersection. The servicing crew has also made good progress installing services along this stretch.

Here’s what’s coming up next week:
🌙 Night work resumes Sunday, October 25, at 8:00 p.m. at Mountain Street, between Elm Street and Main Street
🚧 Overnight work at Main Street and Christie Street begins Monday, October 26, with the intersection reopening each morning at 6:00 a.m.
🛣️ Paving on Main Street West, between Forty Mile Creek and Patton Street, is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, October 29.
💧 Watermain commissioning may also begin this week, with timing to be confirmed.

With crews working nights, expect minimal activity on site during the day along Mountain Street between Elm Street and Main Street.

🚧 Heads up, Grimsby! Here’s what to know before you head out next week.

⚠️ Full closure on Mountain St., from Elm St. to Main St.

Starting Monday, October 19, Mountain St. will be closed to through traffic between Elm St. and Main St. for approximately 4–6 weeks.

Here’s what you need to know:
▪️ Detours will be in place for cars and heavy trucks.
▪️ Parking lots won’t be accessible from Mountain St.
▪️ Sidewalk access to businesses will remain open, and local businesses will stay open throughout construction.

Why will this work take 4–6 weeks? Crews need to work carefully around existing underground utilities, using a hydro-vac truck and hand digging in some areas. This takes extra time but helps protect the infrastructure already in place.
