Congratulations to SHIP CEO Susan Doyle on her election as a Halton District School Board Trustee!

We also extend our congratulations to everyone elected in this week's municipal elections across Ontario, and our sincere appreciation to all candidates who stepped forward to serve their communities. Participating in local democracy requires dedication, courage, and a genuine commitment to public service.

Susan's election reflects values that are closely aligned with SHIP's mission. Strong communities are built when people have access to safe housing, mental health supports, educational opportunities, and the services they need to thrive. As a School Board Trustee, Susan will help shape decisions that support student achievement, well-being, inclusion, and opportunity—outcomes that contribute to healthier and more resilient communities for generations to come.

At SHIP, we know that education, housing, health, and community supports are deeply connected. The success of children, youth, and families depends on strong systems working together to create pathways to stability, belonging, and growth. We look forward to working alongside community partners and elected representatives as we advance our shared goals of created inclusive communities where everyone has the opportunity to succeed.

Together, let's get to work building a brighter future for our communities.

What if your investments could help build affordable housing while earning a return?

For Tracey Thomas-Falconar, that question had a clear answer. After spending years working in social housing and supporting people experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity, she wanted her investments to reflect the values she had dedicated her career to advancing.

That's what led her to invest in SHIP's Community Bonds campaign, helping fund the development of 52 new affordable and supportive housing units at 273 Main Street North in Brampton.

"We think that only people with big money can have an influence. This is an opportunity to directly have an impact and to participate in community." Tracey Thomas-Falconar

We're pleased to announce the launch of Project SOAR (Support, Outreach, Access and Resources), an innovative partnership between SHIP, Peel Regional Police, and Toronto Pearson.

Launched on July 1, 2026, Project SOAR provides a coordinated, compassionate response to individuals who may be experiencing homelessness, mental health challenges, substance use concerns, or other complex life circumstances. By pairing a SHIP Service Navigation Specialist with a Peel Regional Police officer, the program helps connect individuals with appropriate community supports while fostering a safe and welcoming environment at Toronto Pearson.

This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to meeting people where they are, building meaningful connections, and supporting access to services with dignity, respect, and hope.

Today, on World Mental Health Day, we recognize that mental health affects us all, whether directly or through our families, friends, colleagues, and communities.

In any given year, 1 in 5 people in Canada experience a mental illness, and by age 40, approximately half of Canadians will have experienced mental illness at some point in their lives.

These numbers remind us that mental health challenges are not someone else's issue to solve. They are community issues that require understanding, compassion, access to support, and collective action. Mental health is shaped by many factors, including housing, social connection, financial stability, physical health, and a sense of belonging.

At SHIP, we believe that people thrive when they have access to the supports they need, when stigma is reduced, and when their voices are heard and valued.

Angela Coxe, SHIP's Chief Health & Housing Services Officer, commented in a recent article that health and housing are deeply connected, and stronger outcomes are possible when we bring supports together around the needs and goals of each person.

🎥 We also encourage you to watch this video from our partners at Addictions and Mental Health Ontario (AMHO), featuring members of their Persons with Lived and Living Experience Advisory Panel. Through the panel, individuals share their experiences, insights, and expertise to help inform our work and create meaningful change. Because when people are heard, services are stronger and communities are healthier.

Today, on World Homeless Day, we take time to recognize the thousands of people across our communities and country who are experiencing homelessness.

An estimated 235,000 people experience homelessness in Canada each year. More than 80,000 Ontarians experienced known homelessness in 2024, while recent Point-in-Time Counts identified 2,799 people experiencing homelessness in Peel Region, 2,371 in Waterloo Region, and 61 in Dufferin County.

Behind every number is a person, each with their own story, challenges, strengths, and aspirations.

At SHIP, we know that safe, affordable, and supportive housing can be life-changing. It provides the stability people need to pursue their goals, strengthen their well-being, and build the future they want for themselves.

As we mark World Homeless Day, we invite you to learn more about the realities of homelessness and the importance of housing in creating healthier, more inclusive communities.

We're incredibly grateful to The United Church of Canada Foundation! 💙

Thanks to a $5,000 Seeds of Hope grant, SHIP is launching a Housing Access and Stabilization Pilot Project in Waterloo Region.

Safe, stable housing is the foundation for better mental health, stronger communities, and brighter futures. Yet too many people in Waterloo Region continue to face barriers to finding and maintaining a place to call home. This funding will help us connect people with the supports they need to secure housing and build lasting stability.

Thank you to The United Church of Canada Foundation for believing in this work and investing in hope. Together, we're helping create a community where more people have the opportunity to thrive.

Last week, SHIP's Annual Meeting brought together our Leadership Team, Board of Directors, staff, and community members to reflect on a year of growth, impact, and meaningful progress.

The evening was an opportunity to celebrate what we have accomplished together, recognize the people who make our work possible, and look ahead to the opportunities that await in the year ahead.

A highlight of the evening was the presentation of our annual Inspiration Awards, recognizing clients, staff, and community members whose dedication, resilience, leadership, and compassion have made a lasting impact throughout the SHIP community. Their stories are powerful reminders of what is possible when people are supported, included, and empowered to thrive.

We were also proud to debut SHIP's 2026 Impact Report, Growth In Action: Impact That Matters, showcasing the outcomes, achievements, and stories that demonstrate our mission in action across the communities we serve.

The evening served as a reminder of why we do what we do: supporting individuals facing mental health challenges & housing barriers to increase their quality of life and live to their full potential.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and to everyone who contributes to making SHIP's vision a reality: Quality Housing, Quality Services, Quality Lives.
