Help us Shape a New Advocacy Skills Course!

We are working with Amanda Sussman and The Art of The Possible to develop a new course to help individuals engage effectively with government decision-makers on the issues that matter most to them.

We’re conducting a short survey to gather insights from those passionate about advocacy and navigating government systems in Canada. Your feedback will directly inform the design of the course, ensuring it’s practical, relevant, and truly helpful.

πŸ‘‰ The survey will only take about 15 minutes and your input will make a huge impact!

Please share this survey with your network! The more responses we get, the better we can create a resource that strengthens the advocacy efforts of community organizations.

Let’s work together to build a stronger future for advocacy. Thank you for your time and support!

It is not unusual for instructional designers to create courses based on the "mythical average", where the experiences of marginalized learners are considered as "edge cases". By designing for this mythical average, or the "imagined learner", we inadvertently perpetuate inequality as we often default to learners whose experiences mirror our own.

In the realm of online learning, the assumed user is typically someone who has access to essential resources like food and a stable living situation, reliable internet connection, a sufficiently powerful computer for streaming videos and running multiple applications, the capacity to engage with a computer for extended periods, and the ability to access all necessary technologies, among other requirements.

When we design for the "mythical average", learners who do not fit this mold must advocate for themselves in order to fully engage in their learning experience.
