Please see the following notice from the Natural Resources Directorate:

Attention 21B and 21B-West Fishers

To ensure the safety of our community harvesters, the NRD is encouraging all 21B and 21B-West fishers to not enter the water tomorrow, October 6, 2026.

With the incoming storm and recent announcement of the Rangers Department, the risks are too great to ignore.

We respect the discretion of harvesters to manage their own safety, and we want to ensure everyone comes home safely to their family.

Today, the MMS congratulates Chastity Mitchell on her 25th anniversary with the Mi'gmawei Mawio'mi Secretariat. Chas has been an integral part of the Secretariat since we opened our doors 25 years ago. She began her work with the Secretariat as an Executive Assistant to then Executive Director, Brenda Gedeon Miller. Chas has worked tirelessly to fulfill the mandates of the Leadership and has always done so with professionalism and ambition. Over the years, she's held various responsibilities in the administration of the organization, always ensuring fiscal transparency and policy development. Over the more recent years, Chas has moved on to roles of the Interim Executive Director, Associate Executive Director and she now holds the Title of Director of Agnutmatesnu. Her current role keeps her very involved and invested in the Mi'gmaq's place on the territory. She works with the team and specialists to ensure Mi'gmaq are fairly represented at the table.

Chas is an example of what Mi'gmaq women in knowledge spaces can achieve. We don't give enough praise to our own Mi'gmaq women who are building a better future for our next generations. This is exactly what Chas is doing with her work. Today, and everyday, we thank Chas for her unwavering commitment to the Mi'gmaq, the Leadership and to the staff of the Secretariat. Twenty five years in this work is a significant milestone and major accomplishment. We thank you and honour you, Chas, for all the hard work you put into your job. Your passion for the territory and our People does not go unnoticed and we celebrate you today.
