πŸͺ«πŸ”₯ Small batteries can cause big problems when they're thrown in the garbage.

This International E-Waste Day, remember that batteries should never go in household trash. Proper recycling helps prevent fires, protects waste collection workers, and keeps harmful materials out of landfills.

Teachers and school staff can help reduce fire risks by reinforcing safe behaviours and helping students understand the importance of fire safety.

Consider opportunities to:
β€’ Talk about the consequences of fire-setting and vandalism
β€’ Reinforce school safety rules and emergency procedures
β€’ Encourage students to report fire hazards or unsafe behaviour
β€’ Explain the purpose of fire alarms, extinguishers and other safety equipment

🀝 By working together, we can help create safer schools for everyone.

🧯πŸ”₯ DO YOU KNOW HOW TO USE A FIRE EXTINGUISHER?

In a fire emergency, every second counts! Remember P.A.S.S. β€” four simple steps that could make all the difference.

🧯 P – PULL the pin.

🧯 A – AIM at the base of the fire.

🧯 S – SQUEEZE the handle.

🧯 S – SWEEP from side to side.

🚨 Safety First! Only attempt to extinguish a small, contained fire if you have a clear escape route and can do so safely. When in doubt, evacuate and call 911.

At Fire Protection Services Canada Ltd., we help businesses stay prepared with professional fire extinguisher inspections, maintenance and servicing.

It doesn’t take much for a candle flame to start a larger fire. Paper, curtains, bedding, and seasonal decorations can catch quickly.

If the fire is contained to the item that caught fire and you have the right extinguisher, you may be able to extinguish it before it spreads.

If the fire has already spread beyond that, the right move is to get out and call 911. Knowing which situation you are in is what makes early response possible and what helps protect property and save lives.

πŸ”₯ FIRE PREVENTION WEEK 2026 πŸ”₯
Feels Hot? Stop Using It. πŸ”‹βš οΈ
Lithium-ion batteries power many of the devices we use every day β€” phones, tablets, laptops, power tools, e-bikes and more. But a battery that is overheating, swelling, leaking, changing shape, smelling unusual or making strange noises can be a warning sign.
During Fire Prevention Week 2026, remember: Small action. Big impact.
πŸ”‹ If a battery or device feels unusually hot, stop using it.
⚑ Use charging equipment designed and approved for your device.
πŸ›οΈ Avoid charging devices on beds, couches or other soft surfaces.
πŸ”₯ Never continue using a battery that is swollen or damaged.
πŸšͺ Keep charging devices away from exits and escape routes.
Recognizing the warning signs early can help prevent a battery fire.

πŸ”₯ FIRE PREVENTION WEEK 2026 πŸ”ŒπŸ§―
Cheap Charger? Don’t Chance It.
A bargain charger isn’t worth the risk. During Fire Prevention Week 2026, take a few minutes to check the chargers, cords, and lithium-ion battery devices you use every day.
⚑ Charge smart. Stay fire safe.
βœ” Use the charger designed or approved for your device
βœ” Avoid damaged, frayed, cracked, or loose charging cords
βœ” Stop using chargers or batteries that become unusually hot
βœ” Charge devices on a hard, stable surface β€” not beds, couches, or other soft surfaces
βœ” Never use damaged or swollen lithium-ion batteries
βœ” Replace questionable chargers instead of taking a chance
Small action. Big impact.

ON A FLIGHT? KEEP IT IN SIGHT.
Travelling with lithium-ion batteries? Whether it’s your phone, tablet, laptop, or power bank, battery safety mattersβ€”even at 30,000 feet.
When charging your devices during a flight:
πŸ”‹ Keep charging devices where you can see them
πŸ‘€ Watch for overheating, swelling, smoke, or unusual smells
πŸ›‘ Stop using or charging a device if it becomes unusually hot
πŸ’Ί Don’t charge devices underneath blankets, pillows, or between seats
⚑ Use compatible, good-quality charging cables and accessories
✈️ Follow your airline’s rules for lithium batteries and power banks
Small action. Big impact. Keeping batteries and charging devices in sight can help you spot a problem early.
This Fire Prevention Week, make battery safety part of your routineβ€”at home, at work, and while travelling.
