Ice is thin. Open, but be careful for cracks or holes.

Closed for now unfortunately. The last few days melted enough ice down that the surface is breaking through. I'll try to use the cold tonight to build it back up. Happy Family Day weekend!

Hi everyone. We are looking for a new rink operator for next year. Because this is a puddle rink, the job is really just to make the ice, maintain it, and keep the snow clear. There is no supervision or tracking involved.

If anyone is interested please message me with questions or for more details, or I can link you up directly with Ottawa City Seasonal Rec.

Wow, this is a painful start to the year.

We've finally got some cold, but I need snow too for building up the edges, and most of that has melted away on us.

We'll keep working on it, but I don't have a guess on when the ice will be open yet. Sorry everyone.

That's going to be it for this season. Thank you again to everyone who helped out through the year!

Cleared as of 1030. Still accumulating, but slower now and at least most if it is off.

Outdoor rinks | City of Ottawa 01/11/2022

Hi everyone. I'm getting some questions about hockey on the ice. City of Ottawa rules say that hockey isn't allowed on any puddle rinks that don't have boards. We had to put a sign up here based on complaints and concerns of damage from pucks flying off the rink and hitting private property.

I've been contacted by the City about this who have said they will be sending bylaw out more frequently to check, so if you or your kids are asked to leave please politely follow their instructions.

Fortunately in this neighborhood we have Trustee M Curry park just up the street that has good boards and is in good shape, so anyone wanting to play hockey can head over that way.

Here is the link to the rules (you have to scroll down a ways):

Outdoor rinks | City of Ottawa Capacity limits Effective December 26, 2021: Ottawa’s Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Vera Etches, has issued a Letter of Instruction limiting the number of people at outdoor recreational facilities, such as ice rinks. Unless otherwise posted, the maximum capacity is 25 people at one time or few...

Open! Thanks to the good weather for quickly rebuilding, and thanks to everyone for staying off the ice through the process.

This is a new one for me - had a lot of damage to the ice later today at some point. One very large hole broken then all the ice removed and thrown off the side, and about 5 other parts smashed in across various parts of the rink.

So, we are closed for a few days for some repair work as it isn't safe to skate currently. I'd ask if anyone sees people doing that type of excavation that they do one of three things according to their own comfort level:

1. Kindly ask them to stop and note that I'll be there in the evening to fix it, or
2. Push me a message on this page, or
3. Call 311 to report it to the city seasonal recreation department.

Thanks everyone for the support, hopefully we will be open again after the warm spell coming up this weekend.
