Oxytocin is a hormone that acts on organs in the body (including the breast and uterus) and as a chemical messenger in the brain, controlling key aspects of the reproductive system, including childbirth, lactation, human behavior and or***ms.
โณ
We use it to give birth!
โณ
Itโs our natural form of pitocin, which is what is regularly given in hospitals to bring on and increase contractions.
โณ
Unlike pitocin, Oxytocin has an intricate dance between your body and baby to give birth.
โณ
We can increase the release of Oxytocin naturally during labor just by kissing or holding someone we love.
โณ
It can decrease pain for the birther as well.
โณ
Oxytocin bonds us.
โณ
In this photo, you see Oxytocin being released while the parents share a passionate embrace and kiss, bringing their baby closer to their arms.

Romance and intimacy, is just as vital in birth, as it is in love making.

Can you see that bulge on her lower back? That is the Rhombus of Michaelis. During the second stage of labour, a combination of bones including your sacrum actually move backwards and in doing so, increases the diameter of your pelvis. This is what is known as opening of the back.
๐ฆ
This is completely normal and is in fact an integral part of a physiological birth as it allows your baby the maximum amount of space to turn as they navigate their way out into the world.
๐ฆ
In order to facilitate the opening of your back, you should use active birth positions where you are upright and leaning forwards.
๐ฆ
And while your pelvis is expanding, your baby's head is moulding - changing shape to fit through those pelvic bones! Your body was made to do this! And your body and your baby work together! Birth is not something to be feared...it is something to be understood!

This is so important! ๐ฆ
Delayed cord clamping can make a world of difference in an emergency. As long baby is still attached to the placenta & the placenta is still attached to the uterus, baby is getting oxygenated blood.
Also worth noting:
"In a study involving 456 infants, Chaparo et al. could show that by delaying CC (cord clamping) until 2 minutes, iron stores were improved at 6 months of age. Furthermore, we have shown that delaying CC until three minutes is associated with less anemia and improved development at 12 months of age in population in high-risk of iron deficiency and with improved fine motor function and social behavior at 4 years of age in a high income country."

How absolutely magical! ๐ฆ
This is a uterus, cervix, ovaries & fallopian tubes. It is normally about 7 centimeters long and 5 centimeters wide. It is an organ capable of expanding more than 100 times to grow a baby. Each month, it self-cleanses and re-builds to provide a growing embryo with the best environment possible. It can support up to 150 times its own weight & is the only organ capable of creating another organ: the placenta. It is connected to you. If you get stressed, it gets stressed, if you relax, it relaxes. It is the second heart of a mother, because there, she forms the hearts of her children.
