How do we make research move at the speed of policy? ⏱️

At Humber Polytechnic’s Research Unplugged, BacharLorai’s Aditi Zahir and Anil Wasif advocated for a critical shift in the status quo. In a world of complex data, “defensible and actionable” is the gold standard—ensuring insights on youth unemployment or AI governance actually reach the hands of decision-makers.

We explored how funding levers like Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) and The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) grants can serve as bridge-builders, allowing non-profits to access world-class university talent while providing students with career-defining, real-world experience. From technical discussions on the skills gap for international students to exploring the “Why” behind the “How,” the day was a masterclass in bridging the gap between classroom and community.

Bangladesh is currently entering a transformative era of economic opportunity. As global trade barriers lower and international brands diversify their sourcing, the nation is positioned to capture a significant surge in manufacturing demand.

As someone who has watched Bangladesh’s ready-made garment (RMG) sector absorb catastrophe and evolve, Waeza Masnoon, co-founder of Bold Woman: thread ahead, believes its next chapter will be defined not by the cheapest labor, but by the most trusted factories.

In the latest ImpactInk article, she talks to us about the future of Bangladesh’s garment industry and why sustainability, dignity, and competitiveness are the same conversation.

For the third consecutive year, we hosted a parallel event at the Commission on the Status of Women — this time, Jobs for Girls: Leveraging AI to Match Young People with Better Careers at NYU Kimmel Center.

We are grateful to UNA Canada, the UN Youth Office, Journalists and Writers’ Foundation (JWF), and Kamakhya Health Organization for their support.

Beyond our panel, we joined the JWF High-Level Reception, attended invitation-only sessions led by the World Bank at the United Nations, and met with the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to advance our 2030 Research Agenda.

Culture remains integral to our work in NYC. Between sessions, we caught Bengal to Brooklyn at Barzakh Cafe and connected with artists at the We Are All Art opening at Gotham Bowery.

CSW70 builds on our growing presence at the Commission — from refugee women’s leadership at CSW69 to period poverty at CSW68, we continue to put diverse voices at the forefront.

The future of work won’t wait. Neither will we.

For the third year in a row, BacharLorai Global brought together technologists, policymakers, and advocates at CSW70 to ask: As AI reshapes the global economy, who gets to lead—and who gets left behind?

Our panel at NYU’s Kimmel Center didn’t shy away from hard questions:

→ Can algorithms open doors, or do they just automate existing biases?
→ Why do more women enter CS programs than graduate from them?
→ What does genuine co-design actually look like?
→ Who pays the environmental cost of AI infrastructure?

Check our link in bio for highlights on building tech policy that works for everyone.

Thank you to our partners and speakers for making this possible. The impossible becomes possible when we put community at the center.

Almost a year ago, we visited a primary school in Panchkhola and witnessed both the challenges of limited infrastructure and the incredible determination of young students eager to learn.

That moment sparked the launch of our Zero Gap Education Fund.

Today, thanks to proceeds from our 2024 NYC Impact Social and generous supporters, students at the school now have a renovated school and a menstrual hygiene corner supporting girls’ access to education.

A powerful reminder that real change starts with listening to communities.

Thank you to our donors, partners, and community members who helped make this possible.

Eleven months ago, we announced the creation of an essay competition to increase youth policy engagement in developing countries.

After receiving 95 submissions from 18 different schools from across Bangladesh, we’re proud to announce the winners of the inaugural Youth Voices for Inclusion Essay Competition by BacharLorai Policy Research today.

The creativity and depth these students brought to issues of land rights, political representation, and cultural preservation was genuinely humbling. 👏

Congratulations to all participants and deepest gratitude to our independent panel of judges, our kind sponsors and dedicated partners for your support in our inaugural year.
