Meet Nas - our candidate for the President position.

Nas is a Youth Outreach Worker in the Parks, Forestry & Recreation Division.

Here are some facts about Nas:
✨ As a CUPE Local 79 Health & Safety Coordinator, Nas has strongly advocated for workers’ rights and health and safety in the workplace.
✨ Nas believes that worker solidarity should be bound by our humanity and rooted in our common struggles and pursuit for justice, fair wages, safe and affordable living.
✨ She was also re-elected as Auditor Trustee of CUPE's Toronto District Council and is Co-Chair of CUPE Ontario’s Women’s Committee.
✨ She was elected to CUPE Ontario’s Executive Board at the 2022 CUPE Ontario Convention. Over the past year, she has worked to support CUPE locals across Ontario, including during last year’s historic Education Workers Strike as they navigated various stages of the bargaining process.

Meet Keith - our candidate for the First Vice-President position.

Keith works in the Engineering Construction Services division.

Here are some facts about Keith:

✨ Keith has been a long-standing health and safety advocate at CUPE Local 79 for many years. In 2021, Keith was recognized with the CUPE National Health & Safety Award for his decade-long commitment to health and safety in the workplace.
✨ As a long-standing Steward, Keith has represented members at various levels of the grievance process, including at the OLRB (Ontario Labour Relations Board).
✨ He has been active with CUPE Ontario and is an Auditor Trustee with the CUPE Toronto District Council.

Meet Aimee - our candidate for the Vice-President — Chief Steward position.

Aimee's home base position is in the Shelter, Support & Housing division.

Here are some facts about Aimee:

✨ Aimee was elected Local 79 Vice-President — Chief Steward in 2022 and is running for re-election.
✨ As Chief Steward, she cleared more than 800 grievances from the backlog and cleared over 70 members to take stewards' training.
✨ She was previously appointed to other roles at CUPE Local 79, including Acting Treasurer and Part-Time Unit B Officer.

Meet Brigett - our candidate for the Equity Vice-President position.

Brigett works in the Legal division at the City of Toronto.

Here are some facts about Brigett:
✨ Brigett is a strong labour activist with over a decade of union training.
✨ She was a former Duty Officer and is currently one of the Health and Safety Representatives at CUPE Local 79.
✨ She sits on several CUPE Local 79 committees, including the Women’s Committee, Political Action and Health and Safety.

Meet Colin - our candidate for Recording Secretary.

Colin works in the Technology Services division.

Here are some facts about Colin:
✨ Colin is a health and safety advocate and often stands with members during a work refusal for dangerous and unsafe work conditions.
✨ He is active on several CUPE Local 79 committees, including Emergency Measures, Health and Safety, Human Rights, and WSIB.
✨ Colin served a term on the Toronto District Council as the Auditor Trustee.

Meet Fred - our candidate for the Membership Secretary position.

Fred is a member of the Information Technology team in the Senior Services & Long-Term division.

Here are some facts about Fred:

✨ Fred has held many union roles, including CUPE’s National Political Action Chair, Young Worker Chair, Member at Large on the CUPE Ontario Executive Board, and Canadian Labour Congress National Political Action Committee representative.
✨ As a former Recording Secretary at CUPE Local 79, he has led the Part-Time Long-Term Care Bargaining Committee.
✨ He has played a significant role in bargaining committees for TCHC, Bridgepoint Hospital, and the City of Toronto in previous rounds of negotiations.
