As Foster Family Appreciation Week comes to a close, we want to take a moment to recognize the incredible foster families who open their hearts and homes to children and youth in need of care. Foster caregivers do so much more than provide a temporary home. They offer stability, compassion and a sense of belonging while helping children and youth maintain important connections to their families, communities, cultures and identities.
Rochelle, a JF&CS foster parent with the agency for 20+ years shared:
“I have had the honor of being a foster parent to many kids in care. By simply providing a safe and loving home for children who are going through very hard times, has changed my life. Every child deserves a safe and loving home, where they can grow and become productive members of our community. I have seen the kids grow up, get married and have kids of their own. Helping children in need, and all it entails is one of the most rewarding experiences in my life. All families go through hard times. I am happy to provide the space for a child to relax and rebuild.
It is rewarding seeing families reunited. I enjoy seeing kids go back to their biological parents. As a foster parent, I know my role is temporarily help parents by providing a safe home with structure for their children, while they take time to resolve the issues at home. I highly encourage families to consider fostering. It also will help your children understand empathy.”
Thank you, Rochelle! We truly appreciate you and all of our JF&CS foster families for the care, compassion and commitment you provide to children and youth.
JF&CS is currently recruiting Jewish foster families in Toronto and York Region. We need caring individuals and families who can provide a safe, supportive home while helping Jewish children and youth maintain connections to their community, culture and identity.
