Avery, a 12-year-old from Dease Lake, BC, was just five when she was diagnosed with a rare heart condition. Accessing the specialized care she needs means travelling more than 1,500 kilometres to Vancouver, an overwhelming journey for her family. With support from Hope Air, those once difficult and uncertain trips have become safe and reliable, allowing her family to focus on what matters most: her health.
For families in British Columbia, Hope Air makes life-changing care accessible by removing the financial and logistical barriers of distance. This impact is strengthened by the renewed support of $50,000 from Newmont Canada, helping ensure patients in Northwestern BC, can access essential care not available close to home. Newmont’s commitment to community wellbeing, strong local relationships, and prioritizing health and safety aligns closely with Hope Air’s mission, making stories like Avery’s possible and helping keep families together when it matters most. For patients living in rural and remote communities across Canada, accessing medical care can mean hours of driving, unreliable transportation options, no regular commercial air service, or a route with one or more layovers.
Hope Air's Volunteer Pilot Program helps bridge that gap. Through a network of dedicated volunteer pilots across the country, eligible patients can travel to medical appointments in a small private aircraft at no cost.
If you or someone you know may benefit from the Volunteer Pilot Program, learn more here: https://hopeair.ca/faq/volunteer-pilot-program/ or select "yes" on our application form

Every arrival tells a story.
In 2025, 105 Hope Air flights landed at Ottawa International Airport - Aéroport international d'Ottawa - YOW, carrying patients into the National Capital Region for essential medical care. Behind each one is someone who had to travel far from home, navigating distance, cost, and uncertainty just to reach treatment.
At YOW, something simple is making those journeys possible. Donation boxes placed throughout the terminal are helping raise critical funds, turning everyday travel into real support for patients across the country.
Airports are more than places people pass through. For many Hope Air patients, they are a lifeline. A connection between where they are and the care they need.
To the Ottawa International Airport Authority, and to every traveler who has contributed along the way, thank you for being part of these journeys. Your support is felt in every safe arrival.

Special recognition goes to Sandra Hollingsworth for helping share Hope Air’s mission, and to Megan for speaking on behalf of her daughter Harper at the celebration dinner and helping highlight the importance of access to medical travel for Canadians in need.
To everyone who contributed to this championship, thank you for making it such a meaningful event for Hope Air and the families we serve.
