A reminder: recognizing the signs of an asthma attack and responding quickly can save a life.

If an asthma attack happens, remember C.A.R.E.:
C – Calm: Keep them calm and reassure them
A – Air: Sit them upright and encourage slow breathing
R – Rescue Inhaler: Help them find and use their rescue inhaler* (usually blue).
E – Emergency: Call 911 if there is no inhaler or no improvement after using the inhaler

On World Asthma Day, Asthma Canada had the privilege of welcoming members of the asthma community for our Patient Advocate Training Session in Toronto.

A sincere thank you to Josh Rheaume for co-facilitating, and to all of our advocates, Board members, staff, and volunteers who joined us and made the day so meaningful: Tristan Michelle Joseph, Georgia Williams, Rachel Anne Normand, Amanda Calzolaio, Carla Rudberg-Chin, Adrienne Lam, Jaqueline Murdoch, Renay Lambart, Phillip Craig, Jeffrey Beach, Jenna Reynolds, Divya Iyer, Zoe Ullyett, Matthew Moolecherry, Zhen Liu, Heidi Forman, Denise Mak.

The session was a great success, and we are excited to build on what we learned as we continue to strengthen patient advocacy and bring more voices into our work.

A sincere thank you to NDP Leader Marit Stiles and MPP France Gélinas for taking the time to meet with Asthma Canada and patient advocate Josh Rheaume to discuss the issues affecting people living with asthma.

We had a productive conversation about practical solutions, including the critical role of Certified Respiratory Educators (CREs) in primary care and through Asthma Canada’s Asthma & Allergy HelpLine.

We look forward to continuing these discussions with Members of Provincial Parliament later today at our World Asthma Day Reception.
