Integrating digital health into the health care experience.

Canada Health Infoway (Infoway) is a not-for-profit organization that was created in a collaborative effort by the federal, provincial and territorial governments in 2001. AI is transforming how clinicians deliver care and how patients engage with their health.

From reducing administrative burden through the national AI Scribe Program to accelerating access to information, AI is helping improve clinical workflows and empowering patients to become more active partners in their care.

As adoption grows, collaboration and trust remain essential. Aligning health system partners, establishing shared requirements, and ensuring meaningful data is shared responsibly will be key to unlocking AI’s full potential and advancing Connected Care across Canada.

As National Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness Week continues, we're pleased to highlight our Transplantation and Living Donation Management (TLDM) Solution Deployment Project, co-led by Infoway and the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI).

The TLDM project aims to digitize and streamline key processes to enhance transplantation and living donation journeys across Canada. It will also optimize patient management and support improved short and long-term outcomes.

We’ve been working closely with clinicians, program administrators, and vendor partners to configure solutions that meet the specific needs of a broad range of stakeholders. These solutions increase efficiency, reduce duplication in data management, and increase data quality for better evidence-based decision-making and improved patient access to services.

We have TLDM implementation projects currently underway across several of Canada’s jurisdictions. These initiatives are a major step toward advancing organ donation and transplantation practices in Canada, having a significant impact on patient outcomes across the country.

We are pleased to share recent progress on the Deceased Donor Management (DDM) Solution Deployment Project—an important component of the pan-Canadian initiative we are co-leading with the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) to help modernize organ donation across Canada.

As of March 2026, DDM solutions have been implemented in every provincial Organ Donor Organization in Canada (up from just three in 2023). Use of these advanced data systems helps contribute to a more efficient, transparent, and effective Organ Donation & Transplantation System in Canada.

In recognition of National Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness Week, we're profiling the important work we're co-leading with the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) to develop a modernized pan-Canadian organ donation and transplantation (ODT) data management and performance reporting system, including the launch of CanODT.

CanODT is a pan-Canadian data system that collects and reports on comprehensive and timely ODT data, including deceased donation, living donation and organ transplantation.

Through the implementation of advanced technology solutions, pan-Canadian data standards, and expanded reporting capabilities on metrics such as wait times, missed donor opportunities, and long-term patient outcomes, CanODT is helping to make organ donations and transplantation a reality for more Canadians.

Strengthening Connected Care across Canada requires collaboration, shared standards and a clear path forward.

Earlier today, we were pleased to appear before the Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology to contribute to discussions on Bill S-5, the Connected Care for Canadians Act — a critical step toward improving how health information is shared across the country.

Health data in Canada remains too often fragmented, creating challenges for clinicians and risks for patients. Bill S-5 helps set a clear policy direction by establishing expectations for secure, interoperable data exchange and addressing data blocking.

We are supporting this work by advancing the foundational elements needed to turn policy into impact. Through initiatives like the Shared Pan-Canadian Interoperability Roadmap and the Connected Care Trust Framework, we are working with partners across governments, healthcare organizations, and industry to enable more consistent, scalable and trusted data exchange nationwide.

Thank you to the committee for convening this important discussion and to fellow witnesses for their valuable insights.

In case you missed it—we recently released Market Guidance: Volume 2, a new report providing jurisdictions, health system leaders, and health IT vendors with guidance to help advance Roadmap objectives and align with broader pan-Canadian interoperability goals.

If you’re working to improve interoperability, reduce fragmentation, and strengthen health data exchange, this resource offers practical insights to help move your work forward.

The Infoway team is on-site at Première ligne en santé in Montreal today, joining leaders from across the country to advance more connected, efficient primary care.

This morning, Abhi Kalra explored how the Connected Care Trust Framework will enable healthcare organizations to “trust once and connect many” — reducing administrative burden, accelerating interoperability and ensuring trusted information is available where and when it’s needed.

Later today, Salma Roberts, Dr. Rashaad Bhyat and Krista Balenko will join Marc-Nicolas Kobrynsky to discuss how ambient AI documentation tools are easing clinician workload and supporting high-quality care across Canada.

Today is and this year's theme, , highlights the vital role evidence plays in shaping better care.

As Canada's health landscape evolves, standing with science is essential. Grounding decisions in evidence, data and real-world insights builds trust, strengthens systems and, ultimately, improves patient care.

At Infoway, this commitment is reflected through Infoway Insights, our data and analytics hub designed to support evidence-informed decision-making across the health system. From the Canadian Digital Health Survey to our AI Scribe research and the Canadian Medical Student Survey, these insights help show what’s working, where gaps remain and how we can move forward, together.
