For centuries, Indigenous communities across Turtle Island have protected knowledge, language, artistry, governance and connections to the land, while continuing to be leaders of movements for justice and community care🧡
This month we centre the voices of generations continuing to build, create and thrive.
The future is being built with Indigenous brilliance at it's centre ✨
Celebrate this Indigenous History Month by attending the 26th annual imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival from June 2-7, 2026 (Tkaronto) and June 8-14, 2026 (online)! Celebrate Indigenous storytelling though film and more: https://imaginenative.org/festival/schedule/

Starting as a Picnic Protest at Hanlan's Point Beach with only a few hundred attendees, Pride has blossomed into one of the world's most vibrant celebrations of love and liberation. ✨
Before the parades, there was courage. There were voices demanding to be heard, seen and protected. Every march, picnic, vigil and celebration transformed power and visibility into joy.
This month we honor the journey of pride and the communities who showed up for one another, loudly, proudly and unapologetically. ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🤎🩷🤍

Accessibility is a right for everyone, everywhere. ✨
This includes people who are incarcerated, who are too often erased from conversations about accessibility and human rights. No one should be excluded from dignity, safety, communication, healthcare, education and justice.
📢Accessibility means breaking down barriers in communities, workplaces, institutions and justice systems.
📢Accessibility means challenging systems that punish, isolate and neglect disabled people.

Earlier this year Correctional Services Canada announced plans to eliminate prison library positions to save money. Advocates contend that this violates the United Nations Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners, which mandate accessible libraries in every prison.
The community group Write On Prisoners Toronto has created a website where you can send a letter to the Minister and your own MP to protest these cuts. Check out the QR or visit the website to learn more: https://www.stopfiringprisonlibrarians.ca/
If you're into podcasts, Library Land Loves (the official podcast of the Ontario Library Association) has an episode from April 14 devoted to the issue: "Prison Library Funding"

With the ongoing intensification of criminalization and punishment in Canada, there is a growing need for public education and research about these processes and the consequences in order to inform broader public discussions.
The Criminalization and Punishment Education Project (CPEP) makes visible the harms of criminalization and punishment. Check out their work here:

The initiative (No Ontario Prison Expansion) gathers information on the construction of new jails, prisons and penitentiaries, as well as additions to existing carceral facilities across Canada. NOPE aims to open-up spaces to debate the consequences of expanding the state’s capacity to confine human beings, which has the potential to shape patterns of marginalization, criminalization and punishment for generations to come.
NOPE promotes justice reinvestment strategies that would divert funds currently destined for prison expansion towards addressing social inequalities that foster ‘crime’ as a primary means of prevention.
