Tonight's full moon is known as the Hunter's Moon.
For generations, the Hunter's Moon has illuminated forests, fields, and rural landscapes as communities prepared for the seasons ahead. As it rises over Nova Scotia tonight, it's a reminder of our connection to the land and the natural rhythms that shape our forests.

Forestry Sector Council (FORSEC), in partnership with ShiftNine Consulting, is launching a first-of-its-kind labour market study of Nova Scotia’s forestry sector, which is already attracting interest at the national level.

This research goes beyond identifying labour shortages. It will examine how changing markets, technology, trade pressures, and industry demands are shaping forestry’s workforce and economic future.

Our goal is to turn research into action. These findings will help shape a workforce and economic model that identifies where training, workforce development, and strategic investment can have the greatest impact, while providing industry and government with evidence to guide future decisions.

Phase 1 is now underway, and we need industry’s voice. Forestry employers will be asked to complete a short, 15-minute survey to help establish current and future workforce needs. Worker engagement and economic impact analysis will follow.
This is an opportunity to ensure Nova Scotia’s forestry sector has a stronger voice in shaping its future, both provincially and nationally.
