September 30 marks Orange Shirt Day and the 5th National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Canadians are encouraged to wear orange to honour the children who never returned home from Residential Schools, and to recognize Survivors, their families, and communities.

This day is a time to reflect on the lasting impacts of Residential Schools and to listen, learn, and walk the path of reconciliation together.

The Whale-Safe Boating course is for YOU.

This free, online course is a comprehensive, one-stop resource that fulfills a critical need by addressing the safety of BOTH marine mammals and boaters. It helps recreational boaters stay safe and legal around marine mammals —while also enhancing their enjoyment of our spectacular coast and contributions to marine mammal conservation.

Not only is it of use to those who paddle, sail, or motor in coastal British Columbia. Anyone who takes the course can increase their knowledge and help educate others about our marine mammal neighbours.

By taking the course and spreading the word, YOU are helping contribute to a culture of Whale-Safe Boating on our coast.

Join the Parks Canada Learn-to Camp team August 9-10 for an overnight experience in Gulf Islands National Park Reserve, Parks Canada!⛺

The team will introduce you and your family to topics such as how to prepare for a camping trip, wildlife safety, how to set up a campsite, cooking in the outdoors, and other fun games and activities. Tent, foam sleeping pads and camp stove provided.

Spotlight: Southern Resident Killer Whales 💦✨

Southern Resident Killer Whales are a critically endangered population of killer whales living off the coast of British Columbia. These killer whales struggle to find enough salmon to eat, are vulnerable to contaminants in our oceans, and are negatively impacted by boat noise as they hunt using echolocation.
