Following Hon. Mark Brown's announcement, the Government has partnered with Cooks' Island Bus Passenger Transport LTD to deliver the Public Bus Assistance Programme, which comes into effect this Friday.
This programme provides subsidised public transport across Rarotonga as part of the Government’s response to rising fuel costs and to support households and reduce overall fuel demand.
This initiative is designed to support households, workers and families during the current fuel situation by providing free bus travel for Cook Islands residents across Rarotonga.
𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐢𝐭 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬:
• Passengers will need a bus card ($15 one-time fee)
• Cards available from bus drivers or the Cooks Buses office
𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐠𝐞𝐭:
• Up to 4 FREE rides per day
• After that:
▪ Adults: $2.50 per ride
▪ Students: $2 per ride
Bus services will continue on normal schedules, with additional early morning services to support workers and students.
This Government-assisted programme helps ease transport costs, while also reducing pressure on national fuel supply.

STATE FUNERAL FOR FORMER PRESIDENT, THE LATE RATU EPELI NAILATIKAU
Fiji will honour the life and service of former President, the late Ratu Epeli Nailatikau with a State Funeral, as endorsed by Cabinet.
The late Ratu Epeli Nailatikau dedicated his life to serving the nation in many important roles — from Commander of the Royal Fiji Military Forces, to Fiji’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, a Government Minister, UNAIDS Goodwill Ambassador for the Pacific, and Colonel of the Regiment.
His leadership, service, and commitment to Fiji have left a lasting legacy that will be remembered across generations.
The Ministry of Defence and Veterans Affairs will lead the funeral arrangements, working closely with key stakeholders and the Vanua to ensure a fitting national farewell.
