MAYOR OF BUEA COUNCIL BARRISTER DAVID MAFANI NAMANGE HONOURED FOR HIS CIVIC AND HUMANITARIAN LEADERSHIP
The Lord Mayor of Buea Council, Barrister David Mafani Namange, has once again received national and international recognition for his leadership and developmental efforts in the municipality.
The G2G Courageous Men’s Prize – International Award and Humanitarian Medal, was presented to the Lord mayor by Friends of Grass 2 Grace (G2G), a Douala-based humanitarian organisation led by His Royal Highness Thomas Fotang aka Pa Tom. According to the Organisers, the honour recognises the impact of the Lord Mayor’s outstanding work in Buea, widely known as the city of legendary hospitality, a municipality distinguished by its history, culture, education, business and tradition.
He went further to highlight that; the distinction reflects visible development footprints across several communities in Buea. These include investments in drainage infrastructure, notably concrete works and gutters aimed at improving water flow and reducing the effects of floods in vulnerable areas within the Buea Municipality.
The organisation also cited road-related interventions, including works along the Bocom–Mile 16–Eta’s Palace axis, as well as improvements in other community roads. These projects have helped to ease the free movement of residents, traders, students from one different part of the municipality.
Another area of intervention is that of access to clean portable water. Here the Council has engaged in the construction and support of borehole water project and water catchments in communities such as Molyko, Great Soppo, Muea, Buea Town and Mile 17. These interventions are expected to improve on the living conditions and respond to the needs of the denizens of the respective neighbourhoods that have faced water-supply challenges.
In the education sector, the award organisers made mention of to the rehabilitation of schools and literacy centres, describing the efforts as important contributions to learning and community development. The establishment and support of the Women Empowerment Centre were equally acknowledged as a step towards improving opportunities for women through skills development and social inclusion.
Environmental sanitation also formed part of the basis for the recognition. Through clean-up campaigns and related initiatives, Buea Council has continued to promote a cleaner and healthier urban environment, while encouraging residents to take responsibility for their surroundings.
The G2G Courageous Men’s Prize and Humanitarian Medal therefore stands as a recognition not only for Barrister David Mafani Namange’s individual leadership, but also for the wider development agenda being pursued in Buea. For Friends of Grass 2 Grace, the award celebrates a municipal leader whose achievement shape a long-way resilient, inclusive and progressive city.
