The Estonian Festival Orchestra concert tour began on 14 October at Estonia Concert Hall in Tallinn with a deeply moving programme. With a few changes along the way, the programme travelled through South Korea and eventually reached China. Over the course of this long journey, the programme matured and the orchestra grew stronger, culminating in a wonderful finale at the Beijing Performing Arts Centre on 25 October.

What an extraordinary group of musicians, with the brilliant pianist Alexandre Kantorow and, of course, Paavo Järvi, who brought it all to life so magnificently.

It was wonderful to see the hall filled with people who knew exactly what to expect — the Estonian Embassy team among them!

A heartfelt thank you to the Estonian Festival Orchestra, Paavo Järvi and Andres Siitan for bringing this unforgettable musical experience to Beijing!

Chargé d'affaires Leslie Leino gave opening speech at the 26th Robotex World Robotics Competition Asia Finals and Technology & Pop Culture Carnival at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai).

Held in three days from 2-5 October, the event brought together more than 8,000 participants, including participants from abroad, competing across 29 robotics categories. More than 300 exhibitors also took part, with total attendance expected to exceed 150,000 visitors.

Robotex is one of the world’s largest youth robotics competitions. What makes the event particularly special from an Estonian perspective is that Robotex was founded in Estonia in 2001, originating as a robotics competition at Tallinn University of Technology. And it keeps expanding - new members are Hong Kong and Malta.

Thank you for Estonian Nathan Metsala, CEO of Robotex International, and Asia region CEO Teresa Xin for organizing all these events throughout the year. Next step is Grand Finale in next month in South Korea.

It was a pleasure to visit Shaoxing, Zhejiang, for the 2026 World Cleanup Day Global Observance, held from 19–21 September under this year’s theme, “From Clean Plates to Clean Cities.”

I was honoured to attend the opening programme together with Ni Hong, Minister of China’s Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, and 2000 guests from China and around the world. The event brought together policymakers, cities, organisations and environmental practitioners to share experiences and explore practical solutions for cleaner and more sustainable communities.

For Estonia, World Cleanup Day has a particularly special meaning. The movement grew from Estonia’s nationwide cleanup initiative in 2008 and has since developed into a global movement.

It was especially meaningful to recognise the contribution of Estonian Heidi Solba, whose leadership and work with Let’s Do It World have helped build the international network behind World Cleanup Day. What began as an Estonian initiative has grown into a global platform for environmental action. Without her passion Estonia would be way smaller. Thank you, Heidi!

Leslie Leino, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Estonia in Beijing, participated in a panel discussion and presented an overview of Estonia’s waste prevention policies and experience. This provided an opportunity to share Estonia’s approach and exchange views on how policy, innovation and citizen engagement can contribute to reducing waste.

Being in Shaoxing with partners from China, Estonia, the United Nations and many other countries was a valuable reminder that cleaner cities and a more sustainable future are shared goals that connect us across borders.

Thank you to the organisers, volunteers and communities bringing this global effort to life.

From Estonia to the world — let’s do it!

Last weekend, the Embassy of Estonia joined the annual 4th diplomatic regatta in Beidaihe, a popular seaside resort in northern China.
Our joint Estonia–Latvia–Netherlands team finished 5th out of 11 teams after three races. We managed to take 3rd place in two races, but unfortunately, the one race did not go quite as planned!
Congratulations to the winners, Cuba, followed by Albania & Bulgaria, the Beijing Service Bureau for Diplomatic Missions, and Malaysia.
There was plenty of friendship, plenty of fun, and — above all — a great mix of competitive spirit. 🌊🇪🇪🇱🇻🇳🇱
Until next time, fair winds! ⛵️

Today, we proudly celebrate Restoration of Estonian Independence Day! 🇪🇪✨
On this day in 1991, Estonia reclaimed its freedom. It is popular topic in Estonia to ask friends what you did on August 20, 1991? Everybody remembers exactly what they did on that day. As the Soviet Union collapsed, our nation held a singular, clear vision - to integrate with the West as swiftly and deeply as possible. Just two days later, on August 22, 1991, Iceland became the very first country to diplomatically recognise our reclaimed independence. 🇮🇸❤️🇪🇪
To honour this historic bond and show our enduring gratitude, we were absolutely delighted to welcome our Icelandic friends to move in to the Estonian Embassy building in Beijing.
Happy Restoration of Estonian Independence Day!

This weekend marked the second edition of the China–Europe Sports Day, bringing together participants to celebrate the unifying power of sport.

We were honoured by the active participation of H.E. Hua Chunying, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, and former tennis champion Zheng Jie, who, among many career highlights, also partnered Estonia’s Kaia Kanepi in doubles competition.

We look forward to many more successful editions of this inspiring event, strengthening friendship and mutual understanding through sport.
