The Court was scheduled at 10:30 am, and people gathered outside the court gates to stand in solidarity. The police tried to intimidate the gathered people, asking them to identify themselves and informing them that no one would be allowed to enter the court room, referencing an "order from above"*. The people defended their right to be present in the court room, and by the time the procedure was about to begin, the court monitoring team was already present in the court, without any issues. Moments before the procedure begins, the same policeman that was intimidating the gathered people outside, enters the court room and informs the usher discreetly about the presence of people outside and inside the court room, to which the usher replied with a sarcastic comment. The judge remained indifferent to the comment, and the police maintained the presence of 3-5 policemen inside the court room for the duration of the procedure.

The procedure begins and Shoaib family's lawyer informs the judge regarding the documents that are missing from the evidence file, as well as the issue of key witnesses (the 3 officers involved in the incident!) not being involved in the witnesses list. The state's lawyer attempts to explain to the judge that the missing evidence etc. was a mishap and that they will take all necessary action to sort it out as soon as possible. The judge orders the completion and sets a new date for the next procedure (2nd of March at 10:00), where the two sides are expected to verify that the evidence file is complete, agree upon the witnesses to be called and set a new date for the trial to begin. The police officers that had remained in the court room for the duration of the procedure leave the room upon the completion of the procedure.

On 28 January, the inquest into the murder of Shoaib Khan is starting at the Nicosia District Court.

From the very beginning, the handling of this case has been marked by serious concerns regarding transparency and accountability. The case was publicised with the first coroner's verdict classifying the death as due to "natural causes", only to find out days later that a bullet from a police gun was the actual cause. Testimonies have been missing or contradictory, with serious questions concerning the officers claim of acting in self defense. Key statements have not been shared with the legal team representing the family, and the police officers involved have refused to provide further statements.

The inquest, which was decided to take place after pressure of the legal team of the family, represents a crucial opportunity to bring this case into the public eye, expose the systemic failures that allowed this killing to occur with impunity, and demand answers about Shoaib's death.

We demand answers to the following questions:

On what basis was an anti-poaching unit deployed to a migration-related incident? Who and which mandate authorised their involvement?
Who made the operational decision to stop the vehicles, and under whose command were the officers acting?
How is it possible that police officers, who have supposedly undergone training on precision shooting, repeatedly missed their stated target of shooting only in the air and the tires of the first vehicle but instead hit two cars, fatally shooting Shoaib Khan in the back?
Why were the police officers involved not immediately suspended and investigated following the killing?
Why was there no criminal investigation initiated, despite contradictory evidence, missing testimonies, and the officers refusal to provide further statements?
Why has the family’s legal team been denied full access to statements, evidence, and investigative material? What information continues to be withheld, and on what legal basis?
Why has the shooting into the second car involved in the incident not been fully investigated? How come that the officers involved never mentioned shooting at a second vehicle?

On 28 January, the inquest into the murder of Shoaib Khan will begin at the Nicosia District Court. Court monitoring and showing support to this case will be crucial. The inquest comes only after sustained pressure from Shoaib Khan’s family and supporters, who have been demanding truth, accountability, and justice since his death. We call for a show of support outside the court at 8:45AM.

Την Παρασκευή 23/1 στις 19:00 στον κοινωνικό χώρο Καϋμάκκιν Social Space Kaymakkin έχουμε την επόμενη ανοικτή συνέλευση της Πρωτοβουλίας Justice for Shoaib Khan. Η πρωτοβουλία είναι ανοιχτή σε άτομα και ομάδες που θέλουν να οργανωθούν ενάντια στη δολοφονική μεταναστευτική στρατηγική που σκότωσε τον Shoaib τον περασμένο Ιανουάριο. Θα συζητήσουμε δράσεις ενόψει της θανατικής ανάκρισης που ξεκινάει στα τέλη Ιανουαρίου 2026.

On Friday 23/1 at 19:00 at social space Kaymakkin, we are holding the next open meeting for the initiative Justice for Shoaib Khan. The initiative is open to individuals and groups who want to organize against the murderous migration policies that killed Shoaib earlier this year. We will be discussing actions in light of the death inquest that will begin at the end of January 2026.

FRONTEX OUT OF CYPRUS

From 19–21 January, the Management Board of Frontex, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency, is meeting at the "Filoxenia" Conference Centre. The board consists of representatives from the EU member states' border authorities and the European Commission. It is the primary body overseeing the agency’s operation.

Frontex has played a leading role in the militarisation of European borders and executes the EU's racist and deadly migration policies, in cooperation with member states. In recent years, it has expanded massively in funding and geographically. Frontex has repeatedly been documented as contributing to violence at Europe’s borders, including being present during pushback operations in Greece, and through cooperation with the so-called Libyan Coast Guard, facilitating pull-backs in the central Mediterranean that return people to conditions where they face torture. Frontex is also aiming to establish a standing, armed border force of 10.000 officers by 2027.

Frontex's actions are not "unfortunate" or part of a "malfunctioning program", it is the system working fully as intended- a system rooted in racism, violence, and oppression.

Frontex officers have been deployed in Cyprus since 2019. They have been involved in the collection of biometric data at Pournara, stationed at airports for border checks, gathering and processing intelligence through their central offices, and financing and carrying out forced and so-called “voluntary” returns. Through these operations, Cyprus has conducted mass deportations, and is now promoting these strategies to other EU member states.

On the 20 - 21 the Cyprus police will further host an “Informal Meeting of JHA Counsellors”, where the promotion of “voluntary returns” will be discussed.

This is taking place as the EU is planning to pass a new Deportation Regulation aimed at enabling EU-wide, mass deportations and incarceration.

We do not want Frontex deployed in Cyprus.

We do not want Lefkosia to host meetings where Frontex and national border guards, that are responsible for pushbacks, deaths, and disappearances, gather to plan and discuss.

Abolish Frontex.

ΕΞΩ Η FRONTEX ΠΟΥ ΤΗΝ ΚΥΠΡΟ

Μεταξύ 19-21 Γενάρη, το Διοικητικό Συμβούλιο της Frontex, της Ευρωπαϊκής Υπηρεσίας Συνόρων και Ακτοφυλακής, συνεδριάζει στο Κέντρο «Φιλοξένια». Το συμβούλιο αποτελείται που εκπροσώπους των συνοριακών αρχών των κρατών μελών της ΕΕ τζιαι της Ευρωπαϊκής Επιτροπής. Εν το κύριο όργανο που εποπτεύει τη λειτουργία της υπηρεσίας.

Η Frontex έπαιξε ηγετικό ρόλο στη στρατιωτικοποίηση των ευρωπαϊκών συνόρων τζιαι εφρμόζει τες ρατσιστικές τζιαι θανατηφόρες μεταναστευτικές πολιτικές της ΕΕ, σε συνεργασία με τα κράτη μέλη. Η Frontex συμβάλλει στη βία στα σύνορα της Ευρώπης, μεταξύ άλλων με την παρουσία της κατά τη διάρκεια επιχειρήσεων απώθησης στην Ελλάδα τζιαι μέσω της συνεργασίας της με τη λεγόμενη Λιβυκή Ακτοφυλακή, διευκολύνοντας τους επαναπατρισμούς στην κεντρική Μεσόγειο, που επιστρέφουν τους ανθρώπους σε συνθήκες όπου αντιμετωπίζουν βασανιστήρια. Η Frontex στοχεύκει επίσης στη δημιουργία μόνιμης, ένοπλης συνοριακής δύναμης 10.000 αξιωματικών έως το 2027.

Οι ενέργειες της Frontex δεν είναι «ατυχή περιστατικά» ούτε μέρος ενός «δυσλειτουργικού προγράμματος». Το σύστημα λειτουργεί ακριβώς όπως εσχεδιάστηκε – ένα σύστημα που βασίζεται στον ρατσισμό, τη βία τζιαι την καταπίεση.

Αξιωματικοί της Frontex βρίσκονται στην Κύπρο που το 2019. Εν αναμειγμένοι στη συλλογική βιομετρικών στοιχείων στην Πουρνάρα, εν στα αεροδρόμια για συνοριακούς ελέγχους, για μάζεμα τζιαι επεξεργασία δεδομένων μέσω των κεντρικών τους γραφείων τζιαι για χρηματοδότηση τζιαι εκτέλεση των λεγόμενων «εθελοντικών» επαναπατρισμών. Μέσω τούτων των δραστηριοτήτων, η Κυπριακή Δημοκρατία έκαμε μαζικές απελάσεις τζιαι τωρά προωθεί τούτες τες στρατηγικές σε άλλα κράτη της ΕΕ.

FIGHT THE GLOBAL BORDER REGIME

We are horrified to witness the violence that far right militant gangs aka ICE are imposing in communities across the USA and are in solidarity with the resistance on the ground. As ICE imposes and polices a harsh, violent border regime, everyday people come together to defend their friends and neighbours from being kidnapped and deported. Solidarity networks have sprung up all around the country as the community tries to defend itself.

The murder of 37 year old Renee Good, on the 7th of January, was a terrible reminder of what is at stake.

Good was acting as a legal observer outside a dual-language elementary school as ICE agents sowed fear and danger to a quiet Minneapolis community. She was shot while slowly driving away as the murderer called her misogynist slurs. She was unarmed.

While the situation in Cyprus has not escalated to such a level, the struggle in the USA reminds us that we are part of a global working class opposed to the racist, misogynistic, violent policies of the state. The unfolding events across the Atlantic shows us what happens when racist and violent policies escalate. The murders of Anisur Rahman in Limassol, Shoaib Khan near Lefkosia, the pushbacks at sea, the deaths of migrants due to neglect or energy poverty are all stark reminders of the border regime which we have to fight, here and now.

Mourn and remember the dead - fight like hell for the living.

ΕΝΑΝΤΙΑ ΣΤΟ ΠΑΓΚΟΣΜΙΟ ΣΥΝΟΡΙΑΚΟ ΚΑΘΕΣΤΩΣ

Θωρούμε με αηδία τη βία που οι ακροδεξιές συμμορίες γνωστές ως ICE ασκούν σε κοινότητες στες ΗΠΑ. Στεκούμαστε αλληλέγγυα με την αντίσταση που εκφράζεται. Όσο η ICE εφαρμόζει τζιαι περιφρουρεί ένα σκληρό, βίαιο συνοριακό καθεστώς, καθημερινοί άνθρωποι συναντιούνται για να υπερασπιστούν τους φίλους τζιαι τες γειτόνισσές τους που απαγωγή τζιαι απέλαση. Δίκτυα αλληλεγγύης εμφανίστηκαν σε ούλλη τη χώρα όσο οι κοινότητες οργανώνουν την αυτοάμυνά τους.

Ο φόνος της 37χρονης Renee Good, στες 7 του Γενάρη, ήταν μια τρομακτική υπενθύμιση των διακυβευμάτων.

Η Good ήταν νομικός παρατηρητής έξω που δίγλωσσο δημοτικό σχολείο, όπου οι πραιτοριανοί της ICE έσπερναν φόβο τζιαι κίνδυνο σε μια ήσυχη κοινότητα της Μινεάπολης. Επυροβολήθηκε ενώ οδηγούσε αργά για να φύει, ενώ ο δολοφόνος εφώναζεν μισογύνικες βρισιές. Ήταν άοπλη.

Ενώ η κατάσταση στην Κύπρο εν έφτασε σε τέθκοια σημεία, ο αγώνας στες ΗΠΑ θυμίζει μας ότι είμαστε μέρος μιας παγκόσμιας εργατικής τάξης που αντιστέκεται στις ρατσιστικές, σεξιστικές, βίαιες πολιτικές του κράτους. Τα γεγονότα που εκτυλίσσουνται στην άλλη πλευρά του Ατλαντικού δείχνουν μας τι γίνεται όταν εντείνουνται οι ρατσιστικές πολιτικές. Οι φόνοι του Anisur Rahman στη Λεμεσό, του Shoaib Khan έξω που τη Λευκωσία, τα pushbacks στη θάλασσα, οι θανάτοι μεταναστριών λόγω αμέλειας ή ενεργειακής φτώχειας θυμίζουν μας το συνοριακό καθεστώς που έχουμε να γκρεμίσουμε στο δαμέ τζιαι το τωρά.

Θρηνούμε τζιαι θυμούμαστε τους νεκρούς - αγωνιζούμαστε με ούλλα τα μέσα για τες ζωντανές.

Yesterday marked one year since the unjust killing of Shoaib Khan. We gather at Eleftherias square to mourn his life collectively and to honour his memory. We refuse to accept the deaths of people who come to Cyprus in search of safety, dignity, and a better future, only to encounter violence and brutality. Shoaib, at 24 years of age, was shot in the back because he was trying to provide for himself and his family. His killing was not an accident, and it was not inevitable. It was the result of systemic and social violence that surrounds us.

This is not an isolated incident. We remember Shoaib alongside the many others whose lives have been taken because of border policies, racism, and dehumanisation. Their stories are connected, and so is our responsibility to speak their names and demand justice. Migrant workers carry out some of the most difficult and labour-intensive work in our society, yet they are denied safety, rights, and respect. We demand dignity and equal treatment for all—migrant and local workers alike.

We come together to grieve, to remember, and to stand against the violence that continues to claim lives.
Crossing borders is not a crime, establishing them and taking lives away to defend them is.
The vigil included a message from Shoaib's family, text readings in English, Greek, Urdu, French, Turkish, two messages from other migrant workers and a short prayer for Shoaib.

Χτες έκλεισε ένας χρόνος που την άδικη δολοφονία του Shoaib Khan. Εμαζευτήκαμε στην Πλ. Ελευθερίας για να θρηνήσουμε συλλογικά τη ζωή του τζιαι να τιμήσουμε τη μνήμη του. Αρνούμαστε να αποδεχτούμε τους θανάτους ανθρώπων που έρκουνται την Κύπρο ψάχνοντας ασφάλεια, αξιοπρέπεια τζιαι ένα καλλύττερο μέλλον, για να έβρουν βία τζιαι βαρβαρότητα. Ο Shoaib, 24 χρονών, επυροβολήθηκε πισώπλατα επειδή επροσπαθούσε να παρέχει για τον εαυτό του τζιαι την οικογένεια του. Ο θάνατός του εν ήταν ατύχημα, ούτε ήταν αναπόφευκτος. Απαιτούμε αξιοπρεπείς συνθήκες τζιαι ίση μεταχείριση μεταξύ ούλλων των ντόπιων τζιαι ξένων εργαζομένων.

We gather in memory of Shoaib Khan, a 24-year-old Pakistani migrant who was murdered by Greek-Cypriot police on the 6th of January 2025. We remember Shoaib Khan by saying his name, by refusing to forget, standing in solidarity with the mourning family and by collectively fighting against the violence responsible for his murder.
Shoaib came to Cyprus in search of economic stability and a better future. Instead, racist migration policies forced him into precarity and constant fear of arrest.​​ Unable to move freely, he risked his life crossing the buffer zone to work or see his family - an act in which he was ultimately killed on 6/1/25.
From the very beginning, the handling of Shoaib's murder pointed to a deliberate cover-up. His death was initially declared “natural.” Days later it was publicly shared that a bullet was discovered in his body, and it was later revealed it was from a police gun. What followed were contradictory police statements, withheld information, and the absence of accountability. An inquest into his death will begin in late January, only after sustained pressure from Shoaib’s family and supporters.
The murder of Shoaib Khan is not an isolated incident. It is part of a wider system of police violence, border deaths, and migration policies designed to exploit and criminalise.
The state considers workers expendable, especially migrant workers who are pushed into the most marginalised roles of Greek-Cypriot society. In times of crisis, such as today, deportations, pushbacks and the violence that accompanies them intensify. Racism harms the working class as a whole. We stand against the violence of migration policy. Locals and migrants together, we respond with class solidarity, building relationships and common struggles. We cannot undo the murder that has been done. We can, however, refuse to forget it. We can refuse to stay silent.
We demand justice for Shoaib Khan and for all those that died under the murderous migration policies of the Republic of Cyprus.

نجتمع لإحياء ذكرى شعيب خان، المهاجر الباكستاني البالغ من العمر 24 عامًا، الذي قُتل على يد الشرطة القبرصية اليونانية في السادس من كانون الثاني/يناير 2025. نُحيي ذكرى شعيب خان بذكر اسمه، وبرفضنا النسيان، وبالوقوف إلى جانب عائلته المفجوعة، وبنضالنا الجماعي ضد العنف الذي أدى إلى مقتله.
جاء شعيب إلى قبرص بحثًا عن الاستقرار الاقتصادي ومستقبل أفضل. لكن سياسات الهجرة العنصرية دفعته إلى الهشاشة وعدم الأمان، وإلى الخوف الدائم من الاعتقال. وبسبب حرمانه من حرية التنقل، خاطر بحياته لعبور المنطقة العازلة من أجل العمل أو لرؤية عائلته — وهو الفعل الذي قُتل خلاله في 6/1/2025.
منذ اللحظات الأولى، دلّ التعامل مع جريمة قتل شعيب على محاولة تستّر متعمدة. فقد أُعلن في البداية أن وفاته «طبيعية». وبعد أيام، كُشف علنًا عن وجود رصاصة في جسده، ثم تبيّن لاحقًا أنها أُطلقت من سلاح تابع للشرطة. تلا ذلك تضارب في تصريحات الشرطة، وحجب للمعلومات، وغياب كامل للمساءلة. ولن يبدأ التحقيق في وفاته إلا في أواخر شهر كانون الثاني/يناير، وذلك فقط بعد ضغط متواصل من عائلة شعيب والداعمين لها.
إن مقتل شعيب خان ليس حادثًا معزولًا، بل هو جزء من منظومة أوسع من عنف الشرطة، والوفيات على الحدود، وسياسات الهجرة المصمَّمة للاستغلال والتجريم.
تتعامل الدولة مع العمال باعتبارهم قابلين للاستبدال، لا سيما العمال المهاجرين الذين يُدفَعون إلى أكثر المواقع تهميشًا في المجتمع القبرصي اليوناني. وفي أوقات الأزمات، كما هو الحال اليوم، تتصاعد حملات الترحيل، وعمليات الصدّ القسري، والعنف المصاحب لها. إن العنصرية تضر بالطبقة العاملة بأكملها. نحن نقف ضد عنف سياسات الهجرة. نحن، السكان المحليون والمهاجرون معًا، نردّ بالتضامن الطبقي، وببناء العلاقات والنضالات المشتركة. لا يمكننا التراجع عن جريمة القتل التي ارتُكبت، لكن يمكننا رفض نسيانها. ويمكننا رفض الصمت.
نطالب بالعدالة لشعيب خان، ولكل من قُتلوا تحت سياسات الهجرة القاتلة لجمهورية قبرص.

Nous nous réunissons en mémoire de Shoaib Khan, un migrant pakistanais de 24 ans assassiné par la police chypriote grecque le 6 janvier 2025. Nous nous souvenons de Shoaib Khan en prononçant son nom, en refusant de l'oublier, en nous solidarisant avec sa famille en deuil et en luttant collectivement contre la violence responsable de son assassinat.
Shoaib était venu à Chypre en quête de stabilité économique et d'un avenir meilleur. Au lieu de cela, les politiques migratoires racistes l'ont contraint à vivre dans la précarité et dans la crainte constante d'être arrêté. Incapable de se déplacer librement, il a risqué sa vie en traversant la zone tampon pour aller travailler ou voir sa famille, un acte qui lui a finalement coûté la vie le 6 janvier 2025.
Dès le début, la manière dont le meurtre de Shoaib a été traité a laissé entrevoir une tentative délibérée de dissimulation. Sa mort a d'abord été déclarée « naturelle ». Quelques jours plus t**d, il a été rendu public qu'une b***e avait été découverte dans son corps, et il a ensuite été révélé qu'elle provenait d'une arme de police. S'ensuivirent des déclarations contradictoires de la police, la rétention d'informations et l'absence de responsabilité. Une enquête sur sa mort débutera fin janvier, après une pression soutenue de la part de la famille et des partisans de Shoaib.
Le meurtre de Shoaib Khan n'est pas un incident isolé. Il s'inscrit dans un système plus large de violences policières, de morts à la frontière et de politiques migratoires conçues pour exploiter et criminaliser.
L'État considère les travailleurs comme jetables, en particulier les travailleurs migrants qui sont relégués aux rôles les plus marginalisés de la société chypriote grecque. En période de crise, comme aujourd'hui, les expulsions, les refoulements et la violence qui les accompagne s'intensifient. Le racisme nuit à l'ensemble de la classe ouvrière. Nous nous opposons à la violence de la politique migratoire. Ensemble, locaux et migrants, nous répondons par la solidarité de classe, en tissant des liens et en menant des luttes communes. Nous ne pouvons pas effacer le meurtre qui a été commis. Nous pouvons cependant refuser de l'oublier. Nous pouvons refuser de rester silencieux.
Nous exigeons justice pour Shoaib Khan et pour tous ceux qui sont morts sous les politiques migratoires meurtrières de la République de Chypre.

6 Ocak 2025 tarihinde Kıbrıs Rum polisi tarafından öldürülen 24 yaşındaki Pakistanlı göçmen Shoaib Khan'ı anmak için bir araya geldik. Shoaib Khan'ı, adını söyleyerek, unutmayı reddederek, yas tutan ailesiyle dayanışma içinde olarak ve onun ölümünden sorumlu olan şiddete karşı topluca mücadele ederek anıyoruz.
Shoaib, ekonomik istikrar ve daha iyi bir gelecek arayışıyla Kıbrıs'a gelmişti. Ancak ırkçı göç politikaları onu güvencesiz bir duruma ve sürekli tutuklanma korkusuna sürükledi. Serbestçe hareket edemeyen Shoaib, çalışmak veya ailesini görmek için tampon bölgeyi geçerek hayatını tehlikeye attı ve 6/1/25 tarihinde öldürüldü.
En başından beri, Shoaib'in cinayetinin ele alınış biçimi kasıtlı bir örtbasın işaretiydi. Ölümü ilk başta “doğal” olarak ilan edildi. Günler sonra, vücudunda bir mermi bulunduğu kamuoyuna duyuruldu ve daha sonra bu merminin bir polis silahından çıktığı ortaya çıktı. Shoaib's murder by police last year, unfortunately, is not an isolated incident. The racist migration policies keep migrants isolated and vulnerable to exploitation in the labour market, and their struggles, injuries or even deaths go unseen. The pushbacks at sea and on land, the 'record deportation numbers' reported by the ministry of interior, and the police violence that migrants face are parts of the same puzzle.

We share some indicative incidents from the last few years:

March 17, 2025: A boat capsizes off the coast of Cape Greco. Two people are rescued and seven bodies are recovered. It is unknown if the vessel was recovered. Republic of Cyprus authorities were previously informed of a boat carrying 23 people coming to Cyprus and were accused of not acting to save the migrants aboard.

April 10, 2024: Anisur Rahman falls to his death from a fifth story window, during a police/immigration raid on his home in the early hours of the morning. All his roommates, witnesses to the incident, were deported afterwards.

December 12, 2023: A boat with 85 people tries to reach Cyprus from Lebanon. Republic of Cyprus authorities had reported to the families that the 85 were rescued and had been registered. This was a lie. Over the following months, bodies washed up on the shores of Syria, Turkey, and both north and south Cyprus. 1 has been confirmed dead, 84 are missing.

August 23, 2021: 17-18 people try to reach Cyprus by boat. They are intercepted by Republic of Cyprus authorities. Five people jumped into the water to attempt to swim to shore. Four of them were captured, the other is presumed dead. All survivors were pushed back to Lebanon.

These incidents capture the institutional side of racist violence, however, as we have seen in recent years with the pogroms in Chloraka and Limassol and the increase in racist attacks, the violence of the migration policy goes hand in hand with social racism.

Η δολοφονία του Shoaib που την αστυνομία πέρσι, δυστυχώς, εν 'εν ένα μεμονωμένο γεγονός. Παραθέτουμε δαμέ κάποια που τα περιστατικά των τελευταίων χρόνων:

17 Μάρτη 2025: Μια βάρκα αναποδογυρίζει στην ακτή του Κάβο Γκρέκο. Δκυο άτομα διασώζουνται ενώ αναχτούνται εφτά πτώματα. Εν άγνωστο αν η βάρκα εσυλλέχτηκε. Οι αρχές της Κ.Δ. είχαν ειδοποιηθεί προηγουμένως για βάρκα με 23 πλάσματα που έρκετουν Κύπρο τζιαι κατηγορούνται ότι εν εδράσαν για να σώσουν τα επιβένοντα μεταναστά.

10 Απρίλη 2024: Ο Ανισούρ Ραχμάν πέφτει στο κενό που το παράθυρο του 5ου ορόφου τζιαι πεθανίσκει, κατά τη διάρκεια μιας αστυνομικής εφόδου, στο σπίτι του, τις πρώτες πρωινές ώρες. Ούλλοι οι συγκάτοικοι του, μάρτυρες στο γεγονός, στη συνέχεια απελάθηκαν.

12 Δεκέβρη 2023: Μια βάρκα με 85 άτομα προσπαθεί να φτάσει στην Κύπρο που Λίβανο. Οι αρχές της Κ.Δ. ανακοίνωσαν στις οικογένειες ότι 85 άτομα εδιασώθηκαν τζιαι εκαταγράφηκαν. Τούτον ήταν ένα ψέμα. Στη διάρκεια των επόμενων μηνών, πτώματα εξεβράστηκαν στις ακτές της Συρίας, της Τουρκίας, τζιαι τόσο βόρεια όσο τζιαι νότια της Κύπρου. Υπάρχει ένας επιβεβαιωμένος θάνατος ενώ 84 άτομα αγνοούνται.

23 Αυγούστου 2021: 17-18 άτομα προσπαθούν να φτάσουν στην Κύπρο με βάρκα. Ανακόπτεται η πορεία τους που τις αρχές της Κ.Δ.. Πέντε άθρωποι πηδούν στο νερό για να να κολυμπήσουν ως την ακτή. Τέσσερα που τα άτομα συλλαμβάνονται, ενώ τα υπόλοιπα θεωρούνται νεκρά. Όσα επιβιώσαν επαναπροωθήθηκαν στο Λίβανο.

Τουντα περιστατικά καταδεικνύουν τη συστημική πλευρά της ρατσιστικής βίας, αλλά όπως είδαμε τα τελευταία χρόνια με τα πογκρόμ στη Χλώρκα τζιαι τη Λεμεσό τζιαι τις ρατσιστικές επιθέσεις, η βία της μεταναστευτικής πολιτικής πάει σιέρι-σιέρι με τον κοινωνικό ρατσισμό.

Le meurtre de Shoaib par la police l'année dernière n'est malheureusement pas un incident isolé. Les politiques migratoires racistes maintiennent les migrants isolés et vulnérables à l'exploitation sur le marché du travail, et leurs luttes, leurs blessures, voire leurs décès, passent inaperçus. Les refoulements en mer et sur terre, les « chiffres records d'expulsions » rapportés par le ministère de l'Intérieur et les violences policières auxquelles sont confrontés les migrants font partie du même puzzle.

Voici quelques incidents révélateurs survenus ces dernières années :

17 mars 2025 : un bateau chavire au large de la côte de Cape Greco. Deux personnes sont sauvées et sept corps sont repêchés. On ignore si le bateau a été récupéré. Les autorités de la République de Chypre avaient été informées au préalable de l'arrivée d'un bateau transportant 23 personnes à Chypre et ont été accusées de ne pas avoir agi pour sauver les migrants à bord.

10 avril 2024 : Anisur Rahman fait une chute mortelle depuis une fenêtre du cinquième étage, lors d'une descente de police/immigration à son domicile aux premières heures du matin. Tous ses colocataires, témoins de l'incident, ont été expulsés par la suite.

12 décembre 2023 : un bateau transportant 85 personnes tente de rejoindre Chypre depuis le Liban. Les autorités de la République de Chypre ont déclaré aux familles que les 85 personnes avaient été secourues et enregistrées. Il s'agissait d'un mensonge. Au cours des mois suivants, des corps ont été retrouvés sur les côtes de la Syrie, de la Turquie et du nord et du sud de Chypre. Un décès a été confirmé, 84 personnes sont portées disparues.

23 août 2021 : 17 à 18 personnes tentent de rejoindre Chypre par bateau. Elles sont interceptées par les autorités de la République de Chypre. Cinq personnes ont sauté à l'eau pour tenter de rejoindre la côte à la nage. Quatre d'entre elles ont été capturées, la cinquième est présumée morte. Tous les survivants ont été renvoyés au Liban.

Ces incidents illustrent le côté institutionnel de la violence raciste. Cependant, comme nous l'avons vu ces dernières années avec les pogroms à Chloraka et Limassol et l'augmentation des attaques racistes, la violence de la politique migratoire va de pair avec le racisme social.

Shoaib'in geçen sene polis tarafından işlenen cinayeti maalesef izole bir vaka değildir. Irkçı göç politikaları göçmenleri marjinalleştirip iş piyasasında sömürüye karşı savunmasız bırakıyorken, göçmenlerin zulümleri, uğradıkları kazalar ve ölümler de göz ardı ediliyor. Son birkaç yıldan bazı örnek olayları paylaşmak gerekirse:

17 Mart 2025: Cape Greco açıklarında bir tekne alabora olur. İki kişi kurtarılır ve yedi ceset çıkarılır. Teknenin çıkarılıp çıkarılmadığı bilinmemektedir. Kıbrıs Cumhuriyeti yetkilileri, 23 kişiyi taşıyan bir teknenin Kıbrıs'a doğru geldiği konusunda önceden bilgilendirilmiş ve teknedeki göçmenleri kurtarmak için harekete geçmedikleri için suçlanmıştır.

10 Nisan 2024: Anisur Rahman, sabahın erken saatlerinde evine yapılan polis/muhaceret baskını sırasında beşinci kattaki pencereden düşerek hayatını kaybeder. Olaya tanık olan tüm ev arkadaşları daha sonra sınır dışı edilir.

12 Aralık 2023: 85 kişiyi taşıyan bir tekne Lübnan'dan Kıbrıs'a ulaşmaya çalışır. Kıbrıs Cumhuriyeti yetkilileri, 85 kişinin kurtarıldığını ve kayıt altına alındığını ailelere bildirir. Fakat bu bir yalandı. İlerleyen aylarda, Suriye, Türkiye ve Kıbrıs’ın kuzey ve güney kıyılarına cesetler vurmuştur. 1 kişinin öldüğü doğrulanmış, 84 kişi kayıptır.

23 Ağustos 2021: 17-18 kişi tekneyle Kıbrıs'a ulaşmaya çalışır. Kıbrıs Cumhuriyeti yetkilileri tarafından durdurulurlar. Beş kişi kıyıya yüzmek için suya atlar. Dördü yakalanır, diğerinin öldüğü sanılır. Hayatta kalanların tümü Lübnan'a geri gönderilir.
Bu olaylar ırkçı şiddetin kurumsal boyutunu ortaya koyarken, son yıllarda Chloraka ve Limassol’da yaşanan pogromlar ile ırkçı saldırılardaki artış, baskıcı ve şiddete dayalı göç politikalarının toplumsal ırkçılıkla el ele ilerlediğini de göstermektedir.
