The event connects Brussels-level discussions with Cyprus’ local ecosystem, bringing together policymakers, industry leaders, researchers, and the open source community to explore Europe’s digital future — from cybersecurity to competitiveness and digital infrastructure.

The Ambassador had the great pleasure of welcoming Paris and his brother Iasonas to his Residence — two rising art stars and proud winners of the Hyundai FIFA Art Contest.

Paris captured Switzerland 🇨🇭 in a way that was so inspiring that his painting is now heading straight onto the official Swiss national team bus for the FIFA World Cup 2026 in June. That’s right: his artwork will literally be rolling into the tournament like a moving piece of national pride.

Meanwhile, his brother Iasonas took a different route to glory, dedicating his winning painting to the Curaçao team 🇨🇼.

Congratulations to both artists for turning football spirit into art that travels the world 🌎!

The Embassy of Switzerland was pleased to take part in the ARGONAUT training exercise.

Exercises like these are very important to strengthen cooperation, preparedness and coordination in times of crisis, while also offering a valuable opportunity to exchange experiences and best practices.

A sincere thank you to the Cypriot authorities for the excellent organisation and cooperation throughout the exercise. We highly appreciated the warm cooperation and the opportunity to be part of this important initiative.

On 7 May 2026, Ms. Erika Laubacher-Kubat, Head of Division European Cooperation, accompanied by the Ambassador of Switzerland to Cyprus Christoph Burgener, conducted a visit to the future premises of the Cypriot Asylum Service, currently under construction. The project is being co-financed by Switzerland and Cyprus through the Second Swiss Contribution.

A snowman whose head explodes to predict summer weather?

The Sechseläuten festival, held every spring in Zurich, dates back to the 16th century. Introduced by the city’s guilds, powerful associations of craftsmen and merchants. It takes its name from the church bells that ring at six o’clock (“Sechseläuten”), marking the end of winter and the start of longer summer workdays.

The highlight of Sechseläuten is the burning of the “Böögg”, a snowman symbolizing winter. Tradition says: the faster its head explodes, the hotter the summer.
Before the pyre is lit, guild members parade through the city in traditional costumes.
Yesterday, after 12 minutes and 48 seconds, the head of the Böögg exploded. Looks like we can expect a nice summer! Even though it probably won’t get as hot as in Cyprus…

This week, the General Assembly of the Cyprus Swiss Association - Κυπροελβετικός Σύνδεσμος and the Cyprus Swiss Business Circle took place at the Ambassador’s residence. Both organizations reflected on successful events. Distinguished members and supporters, including Dres. Cosmina & Sozos-Christos Theodoulou and long-time embassy staff member Andriani Michael, were named honorary members by the President of the Association, Mr. Thomas Kaiser. Long-serving members were succeeded by new, dynamic board members. The Ambassador expressed heartfelt gratitude to all board members for their dedicated contributions and unwavering commitment to strengthening Swiss–Cypriot relations.

Despite the urgent needed rain doing its best to ruin our plans, we had a wonderful excursion anyway—apparently umbrellas and good humor are waterproof. Thanks to the Center for Visual Arts and Research in Nicosia for the successful Women‘s walk and talk ! The Embassy is proud to be a partner!
