It is with a very sad and heavy heart that I have to tell you that my Beautiful baby Derek lost his fight for life last night. I feel Privlidge to have had this amazing experience and journey. He has left me heartbroken but also with a lot of very special and amazing memories. Derek is now buried at end of his pathway (which is aptly named Derek Strasse) which leads through his Orchard. 💔🦌💔

A quick update. Derek’s fever has gone but he has developed further complications. He now has a condition called foam bloat which is very serious and can be fatal. Last night he had a procedure done where a needle is inserted into his belly to release all the gas. We have had to take him out of his pen and put him into one of the dog kennels so he can’t eat anything else apart from hay and drink water. The next week will be critical in his survival. 😔

Whilst we were away in the UK Derek decided to move out of the orchard and give being wild a proper go, albeit he didn't move too far. On our return Derek did come back to see me and had two lady deers with him. This was amazing to see but they did come at some cost, Derek had to fight for these ladies and had got himself a few cuts and and bumps, some of which were quite bad. Well on Saturday he turned up back in the garden during the daytime not feeling too well and looking very poorly and all he wanted to do was get back in his pen and have some love and attention. It appears that one of the fights he has had left a wound on top of his head which has become very badly infected. Derek is not in a good way at the moment and we are just hoping that the antibiotics that we managed to get in him today start to work quickly. ❤️

This isn't a pretty post but this is how came home this morning. He no longer has his beautiful Unicorn. Looks like he had spent the night rubbing off his velvet which now looks very sore plus he still has the velvet hanging on.
