It’s with a very heavy heart that we share with you that Fernanda Milán passed away on 3 July 2022. She left us during the early morning with tragic suddenness as the result of a cardiac arrest.

Fernanda spread her laughter and compassion to all those that she met. She was an irreplaceable friend, fighter and activist who will live on forever in our hearts and through her effects on our community. We know that she was loved by many, and her legacy can be felt beyond borders and nations.

After having fled Guatemala, Fernanda organised for her own and other trans people’s access to asylum which led to changes to Danish and international policies, and the possibility to seek asylum in Denmark based on trans status and persecution.

Within TransAktion she was a counsellor and facilitator, and many of you had the privilege of sharing spaces with her. She truly loved the work she did, and found a deep joy in being able to connect with you all. She fought everyday to show up for our community, and was a truly dedicated activist who was passionate about creating spaces and support among, by and for the most marginalised within our trans communities. She was a proud feminist, who saw the beauty and great power in all things feminine.

Thank you Fernanda for being a wonderful friend, an amazing colleague and inspiration to many. There are no words beautiful enough to give justice to your person. We love you, we miss you and we know you are at peace, perhaps even finally reunited with your little dog Shatzy ❤

Con gran pesar en el corazón les compartimos que Fernanda Milán falleció el 3 de julio de 2022. Nos dejó durante la madrugada de manera trágica y repentina debido a un paro cardíaco.

Su risa y compasión de Fernanda contagiaba a todxs lxs que conocía. Fue una amiga, guerrera y activista insustituible que vivirá para siempre en nuestrxs corazones y a través de sus efectos en nuestras comunidades. Sabemos que fue amada por muchxs, y su legado se puede sentir más allá de fronteras y naciones.

Después de haber huido de Guatemala, Fernanda luchó por su propio acceso al asilo y al de otras personas trans, lo que llevó a cambios en las políticas danesas e internacionales, y la posibilidad de requerir asilo en Dinamarca basado en el ser trans y la persecución.

Dentro de TransAktion fue consejera y facilitadora, y muchxs de ustedes tuvieron el privilegio de compartir espacios con ella. Realmente amaba el trabajo que hacía y encontró una profunda alegría en poder conectarse con todxs ustedes. Luchó todos los días para estar presente por y en nuestras comunidades, y fue una activista verdaderamente dedicada a la que le apasionaba crear espacios y apoyo entre, por y para lxs más marginadxs dentro de nuestras comunidades trans. Era una feminista orgullosa, que vio la belleza y el gran poder en todas las cosas femeninas.

Gracias Fernanda por ser una amiga maravillosa, una compañera de trabajo increíble e inspiración para muchxs. No hay palabras lo suficientemente bellas para hacer justicia a tu persona. Te amamos, te extrañamos y sabemos que estás en paz, tal vez incluso finalmente reunida con tu perrita Shatzy ❤

Se compartirá pronto el lugar y hora donde vamos a conmemorar a Fernanda.

Det er med et meget tungt hjerte at vi må meddele, at Fernanda Milán afgik ved døden d. 3. juli 2022. Hun døde tidligt om morgenen på tragisk og pludselig vis som følge af hjertestop. Fernanda delte sin latter og medfølelse med alle dem hun mødte. Hun er en uerstattelig ven, en fighter og aktivist, som vil leve videre i vores hjerter og gennem hendes indflydelse på vores miljøer. Vi ved, at hun var elsket af mange, og hendes eftermæle kan mærkes på tværs af landegrænser og nationer. Efter hun flygtede fra Guatemala organiserede Fernanda både for sin egen og andre transpersoners adgang til asyl, hvilket medførte ændringer i den danske såvel som den internationale lovgivning på området, og sikrede muligheden for at søge asyl på baggrund af status som transperson og forfølgelse. I TransAktion var hun rådgiver og facilitator, og mange af jer har haft privilegiet af at dele oplevelser med hende. Hun elskede oprigtigt sit arbejde og fandt dyb glæde i at møde og skabe relationer med jer alle. Hun kæmpede hver dag for at være aktivt til stede i og for vores miljøer og var vitterlig en dedikeret aktivist, som var passioneret for at skabe rum og støttende fællesskaber med og for de mest marginaliserede i vores transmiljøer. Hun var en stolt feminist, som så skønhed og styrke i alt feminint. Tak, Fernada, for at være en fantastisk ven, en skøn kollega og en inspiration for så mange. Der findes ingen ord smukke nok til at beskrive din person. Gooodt nyt!! FNs Menneskerettighedskomite har i dag meddelt, at de vil tage Suryanis sag op. Det betyder, at Flygtningenævnets udvisning sættes i bero, mens komiteen behandler sagen. Sagsbehandlingstiden kan være meget lang, så vi opfordrer stadig Flygtningenævnet til at genoptage sagen. Men stor lettelse over, at udvisningen er blevet stoppet på målstregen for nu. Tak for støtten indtil nu!!! Og hold øje, vi får måske brug for jer igen.

Gooood news!! The UN Human Rights Committee today announced that the committee will take Suryani's case under consideration. This means that the deportation has been stopped while the committee considers her case. This may take a long time, so we still urge the Danish Refugee Board to reopen Suryani's case. But great joy that the deportation has been stopped for now. Thanks for your support so far!!! Keep an eye out, we might need you again.

This week Fernanda Milán has been participating in the Salzburg Global Seminar ‘LGBT and Human Rights: New Challenges, Next Steps’. She was invited to talk about issues such as the right to live, the vulnerability to human trafficking and refugee policies.
Following the seminar a Salzburg Statement on next steps will be presented to the UN, the Council of Europe and other relevant bodies.

We are very sad to announce that the protests of NGO's around the world (including the T-Refugee Project) didn't help to stop the deportation of Yasira, a transgender refugee from Panama, who aplied for asylum in Spain. The Spanish authorities have been very fast in the decision to reject and deport Yasira. It's a sad day for Yasiras possibilities to get a peaceful life and for human rights in Spain, Panama and the rest of the world. Estamos Enviando esta carta al Ministerio de Justicia en España, hoy para expresar nuestra conmoción y disgusto por la forma en que el gobierno Español está tratando a la Refugiada Panameña Srita. Jazeera, de 29 años.

Jazeera es una joven transgénero que ha buscado refugio en España después de su persecución por parte de los vigilantes y las agencias estatales en Panamá. Es claro, a partir de la forma en que ha sido tratado Jazeera que los ataques están siendo dirigidos específicamente desde las autoridades para su persecución personal, y estaría en peligro inminente de violencia y muerte de ser enviada de vuelta."

Las mujeres transgénero y transexuales en Panamá sufren de discriminación directa e indirecta y no tienen ningún tipo de protección frente a los abusos de derechos humanos; No existe una legislación contra la discriminación en Panamá y no protege a éstas personas de cualquier forma de discriminación.

Como consecuencia muchas mujeres trans panameñas se ven obligadas a prostituirse porque el acceso a otros puestos de trabajo y a la educación les es negada. Luego son perseguidas por la policía y por el crimen organizado, por lo cual es obvio que el gobierno es incapaz de ofrecer o garantizar protección para las personas transgénero. Esto las pone en riesgo de violencia y asesinatos a diario.

España es conocido como el estado más progresista en términos de igualdad de derechos para las personas LGBT, incluyendo el derecho de una persona trans a cambiar su s**o legal para que coincida con su identidad de género, que es crucial para las personas trans. Sin embargo, en Panamá, el abuso de las personas transgénero es un caso del diario vivir. - muchos son detenidos arbitrariamente por la policía y obligados a pagar un soborno o prisión cara. Una persona trans, que sobrevivió a una puñalada en Tocumen, se mostró reacion a denunciar el caso a la policía en absoluto. La población de España es partidaria de los derechos de las personas LGBT y ha sido a menudo considerada como líder mundial en el ámbito de los derechos humanos. Devolviendo a esta joven a una muerte segura no se ajusta a la forma en que la mayoría de las personas creen en España sobre los derechos humanos, sería, sin duda, el daño de la buena reputación de España en todo el mundo.
