On April 7, 331 BC, Alexander the Great laid the foundation stone of a city that was not merely a port, but a bridge connecting the civilizations of the world.

Today, we celebrate more than 23 centuries of cultural dynamism and rich diversity. Under the patronage of the Alexandria Governorate, Bibliotheca Alexandrina, and the Embassy of Greece in Cairo, the celebration titled:

“Alexandria: The Birth of a Global City”

يتضمن البرنامج موكبًا احتفاليًا يشارك فيه أطفال وشباب مصريون ويونانيون يرتدون الأزياء التقليدية ويحملون علم الإسكندرية، في تعبير رمزي عن طبيعة سكانها الأوائل وكيف جمعتهم في تناغم رغم اختلاف الثقافات.
يبدأ الموكب من أمام المتحف اليوناني الروماني بشارع فؤاد، مرورًا بتمثال الإسكندر الأكبر بميدان ساعة الزهور، وصولًا إلى مكتبة الإسكندرية، حيث تُقام عروض فولكلورية مصرية ويونانية بساحة الحضارات.

تُعقد الجلسة الافتتاحية بالقاعة الكبرى بمركز المؤتمرات بـمكتبة الإسكندرية في تمام الساعة الثانية ظهرًا، وتتضمن كلمات رسمية وثقافية حول أهمية المدينة ودورها التاريخي، إلى جانب محاضرة عن الإسكندر والإسكندرية، وعرض الفيلم الوثائقي "الإسكندرية: إمبراطورية الأفكار". كما تشمل الفعاليات توزيع جوائز مسابقة الأعمال الفنية المستوحاة من تاريخ الإسكندرية، ومعرضًا للمقتنيات الأثرية من المركز الهلّيني لبحوث حضارة الإسكندرية، يستعرض نتائج حفريات حدائق الشلالات خلال العشرين عامًا الماضية.

وقال الأستاذ الدكتور أحمد زايد؛ مدير مكتبة الإسكندرية، إن هذه الفعالية الكبرى تأتي للاحتفاء بتأسيس مدينة الإسكندرية، لتسليط الضوء على تاريخها الحافل وإرثها الثقافي والعلمي والفني الغني. وشدد على اعتزاز المكتبة بالتعاون مع شركائها في تنظيم هذه الاحتفالية، انطلاقًا من الالتزام المشترك بإحياء التراث الإنساني وتعزيز قيم الحوار والتسامح التي تأسست عليها مدينة الإسكندرية ومكتبتها العالمية.

من جانبه، قال المهندس أيمن عطية، محافظ الإسكندرية، إن الاحتفال بعيد تأسيس مدينة الإسكندرية يجسد المكانة التاريخية الفريدة التي تتمتع بها المدينة عبر العصور، ويعكس دورها المستمر كجسر للتواصل بين الحضارات والثقافات المختلفة، مؤكدًا حرص المحافظة على دعم الفعاليات التي تُبرز الهوية الحضارية للإسكندرية وتعزز مكانتها على المستويين الإقليمي والدولي.

The program includes a festive parade featuring Egyptian and Greek children and youth dressed in traditional costumes and carrying the Flag of Alexandria, symbolically reflecting the character of the city s earliest inhabitants and how Alexandria brought them together in harmony despite cultural differences. The parade will begin in front of the Graeco-Roman Museum on Fouad Street, passing by the statue of Alexander the Great at Flower Clock Square, and concluding at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, where Egyptian and Greek folkloric performances will take place at the Plaza of Civilizations.

The opening session will be held at the Great Hall of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Conference Center at 2:00 PM. It will feature official and cultural addresses on the significance of the city and its historic role, in addition to a lecture on Alexander and Alexandria, and the screening of the documentary film Alexandria: Empire of Ideas.

The celebrations will also include the presentation of awards for the art competition inspired by the history of Alexandria, as well as an exhibition of archaeological artifacts from the Hellenic Center for Alexandrian Civilization Research, showcasing the results of excavations at Shallalat Gardens over the past twenty years.

Professor Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, stated that this major celebration is being organized to commemorate the founding of Alexandria and to shed light on its illustrious history and its rich cultural, scientific, and artistic legacy. He emphasized the library pride in cooperating with its partners in organizing this event, reflecting their shared commitment to reviving human heritage and promoting the values of dialogue and tolerance upon which Alexandria and its universal library were founded.

For his part, Eng. Ayman Attia, Governor of Alexandria, stated that celebrating the anniversary of the founding of Alexandria embodies the city’s unique historical stature throughout the ages and reflects its enduring role as a bridge for communication among civilizations and diverse cultures. He affirmed the Governorate’s commitment to supporting events that highlight Alexandria’s civilizational identity and strengthen its standing at both the regional and international levels.

The celebration is jointly organized by the Alexandria Governorate, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, the Embassy of Greece, the Archaeological Society of Alexandria, the Consulate General of Greece in Alexandria, the Hellenic Research Institute of Alexandrian Civilization, and the Greek Community of Alexandria.

1- هذا الفورم خاص بكلية الآداب جامعة الإسكندرية فقط.

2- الفترة المستهدفة من عام 2014 حتى عام 2026 ويأخذ هذاالعام من تاريخ مجلس الجامعة للمنح.

3- يقدم في الفورم الخاص بدرجة الماجستير الطالب الحاصل على الماجستير فقط ولم يحصل على الدكتوراه.

4- يكتفي الطالب الحاصل على الدكتوراه بالتقديم على الفورم الخاص بالدكتوراه فقط ولايقدم في الفورم الخاص بالماجستير وفي هذا الفورم يرفع شهادة الدكتوراه وليست الماجستير.

5- لا يلزم حضور الطالب بنفسه إلى إدارة الدراسات العليا ولا يلزمه اي إجراء حتى إشعار آخر.

6- الطالب الحاصل على درجة الماجستير من كلية الآداب جامعة الإسكندرية وحاصل على الدكتوراه من جامعة أخرى عليه التقدم من خلال الجامعة التي حصل على درجة الدكتوراه بها حتى لو كان من سكان محافظة الإسكندرية.

7- بمجرد الوصول إلى آخر خطوة من خطوات التسجيل من خلال الفورم تكون قد سجلت بياناتك ووصلت إلينا.

تنظم مكتبة الإسكندرية، بالتعاون مع القنصلية العامة لليونان بالإسكندرية، احتفالية بمناسبة اليوم العالمي للغة اليونانية، وذلك
يوم الاثنين الموافق 16 فبراير 2026، الساعة الحادية عشرة صباحًا، بالمسرح الصغير مركز مؤتمرات مكتبة الإسكندرية.

يشمل البرنامج محاضرة رئيسية بعنوان «اللغة اليونانية ودورها في حفظ التراث العلمي والأدبي والفكري في العالم أجمع»، يلقيها الأستاذ الدكتور أشرف فراج، أستاذ العلوم اللغوية المقارنة (اليونانية واللاتينية) وعميد كلية الآداب الأسبق بجامعة الإسكندرية. ويتناول خلالها إسهامات اللغة اليونانية في حفظ ونقل المعرفة الإنسانية عبر الأجيال، وتأثيرها في التراث العلمي والفكري والأدبي عالميًا، إضافة إلى استعراض تطور اللغة اليونانية عبر مراحلها التاريخية المختلفة وصولًا إلى العصر الحديث، واستمرار حضورها في العديد من المصطلحات العلمية والأدبية المتداولة حتى اليوم.

كما يشارك مركز دراسات الخطوط بقطاع البحث الأكاديمي بمحاضرة بعنوان «الحفاظ على التراث: مشروع رقمنة ودراسة برديات الدكتور زكي علي»، تقدمها الأستاذة رنا الزلباني، الباحثة بالمركز وأحد أعضاء فريق المشروع. وتستعرض المحاضرة مجموعة البرديات التي أهدتها عائلة الدكتور زكي علي لمكتبة الإسكندرية، والمحفوظة ضمن مقتنيات مكتبة المجموعات الخاصة والكتب النادرة. ويصاحب الفعالية عرض متحفي لعشر برديات أصلية مكتوبة باللغة اليونانية القديمة، من بينها نماذج نادرة تضم أجزاء من الترجمة اليونانية القديمة لبعض أسفار العهد القديم، المعروفة باسم «الترجمة السبعينية»، والتي يُرجح أنها تعود إلى القرن الثالث قبل الميلاد، وربما أُنجزت في عهد الملك بطليموس الثاني داخل البيئة العلمية لمكتبة الإسكندرية القديمة.

ويتضمن البرنامج كذلك قراءات من الشعر اليوناني الحديث باللغة اليونانية والعربية، وعرض الفيلم التسجيلي «رحلة الكتابة في مصر» الذي يسلط الضوء على الكتابات اليونانية في مصر، إلى جانب عرض فيلم وثائقي قصير حول التراث الكتابي اليوناني في مصر والعالم.

وتُختتم الاحتفالية بعرض موسيقي مستوحى من التراث اليوناني. كما تشارك المؤسسة اليونانية للكتاب والثقافة فرع الإسكندرية بعرض مجموعة من الكتب المترجمة من اللغة اليونانية إلى العربية، دعمًا لحركة الترجمة وتعزيزًا للتبادل الثقافي بين البلدين.

يُذكر أن اليوم العالمي للغة اليونانية يُحتفى به في التاسع من فبراير من كل عام، تخليدًا لذكرى الشاعر الوطني ديونيسيوس سولوموس، مبدع النشيد الوطني اليوناني، وذلك بعد اعتماده رسميًا خلال أعمال الدورة الثالثة والأربعين لمنظمة اليونسكو.

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina, in cooperation with the Consulate General of Greece in Alexandria, is organizing a celebration on the occasion of “World Greek Language Day”
on Monday, 16 February 2026, at 11:00 a.m., at the Small Theater, Bibliotheca Alexandrina Conference Center.

The program features a keynote lecture entitled The Role of the Greek Language in Preserving the World’s Scientific, Literary, and Intellectual Heritage, delivered by Professor Ashraf Farag, Professor of Comparative Linguistics (Greek and Latin) and former Dean of the Faculty of Arts at Alexandria University. His lecture will address the contributions of the Greek language to safeguarding and transmitting human knowledge across generations, its profound impact on global scientific, intellectual, and literary heritage, as well as the historical development of the Greek language from antiquity to the modern era, and its continued presence in numerous scientific and literary terms in use today. The Writing and Scripts Center, affiliated with the Academic Research Sector, will also participate with a lecture entitled Heritage Preservation: The Zaki Aly Papyri Digitization and Study Project, presented by Ms. Rana El-Zalabany, researcher at the Center and a member of the project team. The lecture will highlight the papyri collection donated by the family of Dr. Zaki Aly to the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, now preserved within the Rare Books and Special Collections Library.

The event will be accompanied by a museum display of ten original Ancient Greek papyri, including rare samples containing passages from the ancient Greek translation of selected books of the Old Testament, known as the Septuagint, which are believed to date back to the third century BCE and may have been produced during the reign of King Ptolemy II within the scholarly environment of the ancient Library of Alexandria.

The program will also include readings of modern Greek poetry in both Greek and Arabic, the screening of the documentary film The Journey of Writing in Egypt, which sheds light on Greek writings in Egypt, as well as a short documentary on Greek textual heritage in Egypt and worldwide.

The celebration will conclude with a musical performance inspired by Greek heritage. In addition, The Alexandria branch of the Hellenic Foundation for Books and Culture will participate by presenting a selection of books translated from Greek into Arabic, in support of translation initiatives and to further strengthen cultural exchange between the two countries.

It is worth noting that World Greek Language Day is celebrated annually on 9 February in commemoration of the national poet Dionysios Solomos, author of the Greek national anthem, following its official adoption during the 43rd session of UNESCO.
