In the framework of SABBART Symposium: Urban and Green Spaces!

We present to you part of the program of the day which will feature a panel with the topic of:

"Between Concrete and Soil: Practicing Urban Ecologies in Cairo!"

This panel brings together practitioners who actively intervene in Cairo’s urban fabric, working at the intersection of ecological thinking, spatial practice, and everyday life. Moving beyond the binary of “nature vs. city,” it explores how urban environments are continuously negotiated through design, informal agriculture, participatory processes, and cultural activation.

في إطار ندوة صبأرت: الفضاءات الحضرية والخضراء!

نقدّم لكم جزءًا من برنامج اليوم، والذي سيتضمن جلسة نقاشية بعنوان:
بين الخرسانة و التراب: ممارسة البيئات الحضرية في القاهرة

تضم هذه الجلسة مجموعة من الممارسين يعملون على التدخل المباشر في النسيج العمراني للقاهرة في نقطة التقاء بين التفكير البيئي و الممارسة المكانية و الحياة اليومية. بعيدا عن الثنائية القائمة بين "الطبيعة و المدينة" تتناول هذه الجلسة الطرق التي تتشكل بها البيئات الحضرية باستمرار من خلال التصميم و الزراعة العشوائية و المشاركة المجتمعية و التفعيل الثقافي.

Join us for a conversation with Austrian artist Benedikt Werth about his work and artistic approach to urban documentaries during the SABBART symposium on the topic of Urban and Green Spaces.

About the artist:
The Austrian documentary filmmaker and artist Benedikt Werth graduated in „Metropolitan Culture“ (critical urban studies) at HafenCity University Hamburg. From 2018 to 2023 he studied Art and Film under Thomas Heise and Tizza Covi at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and is currently living and working as a filmmaker, film editor, colorist and DoP in Vienna.

Benedikt Werth was already working in Cairo in 2025 as part of a research project during which he collected documentary material in the city. At the moment he is developing the project Filling Spaces in 2026 in collaboration with the Austrian Cultural Forum Cairo. In this artist talk, he will explore the question of how cinematic spaces are created—and how they move between documentation, fiction, and memory.

انضموا إلينا في حوار مع الفنان النمساوي "بيندكت ويرث" حول أعماله ونهجه الفني في الأفلام الوثائقية الحضرية، وذلك ضمن فعاليات ندوة "صبأرت" التي تُقام حول موضوع المساحات الحضرية والخضراء.

عن الفنان:
حصل مخرج الأفلام الوثائقية النمساوي بيندكت فيرت على درجة علمية في الثقافة الحضرية (الدراسات الحضرية النقدية) من جامعة هافين سيتي بمدينة هامبورج.

وفي الفترة من عام ٢٠۱٨ الى عام ٢٠٢٤ درس الفنون و السينما تحت اشراف توماس هايزة و تيزا كوفي بأكاديمية الفنون الجميلة بفيينا و هو حاليا مقيم و يعمل بفيينا كمخرج سينمائي و مونتير و مصمم ألوان و مدير تصوير.

لقد عمل بنيدكت بالقاهرة عام ٢٠٢٥ حيث كان مشاركا في مشروع بحثي حيث قام بجمع مواد وثائقية في المدينة. و حاليا أي في عام ٢٠٢٦ يقوم بالعمل على مشروع "ملىء المساحات" بالتعاون مع المركز الثقافي النمساوي بالقاهرة.

وفي هذه الجلسة الحوارية مع الفنان سيتعرض لموضوع تكوين الفضاءات السينمائية و كيف تتحرك بين التوثيق و الخيال و الذاكرة.
