Strengthening Humanitarian Diplomacy and Cooperation on Refugee Affairs

A constructive and high-level diplomatic meeting was held today between the Delegation of the Embassy of the Republic of South Sudan, headed by H.E. Ambassador Kuol Nyok Kuol Arop
Head of Mission of the Embassy of the Republic of South Sudan to Egypt,
, and the UNHCR team in Egypt, led by Dr. Hanan Hamdan, Representative of UNHCR to the Arab Republic of Egypt and the League of Arab States.
The meeting focused on matters of mutual concern regarding South Sudanese refugees in Egypt, including the key challenges they face, their protection needs, and opportunities to enhance coordination between the Embassy and UNHCR.
Both sides exchanged views on the status of registered South Sudanese refugees and emphasized the importance of continued cooperation, constructive dialogue, and strengthened diplomatic engagement to support effective and sustainable humanitarian responses.
This engagement reflects a shared commitment to reinforcing international partnership and advancing dignified solutions for refugees in line with humanitarian principles and diplomatic collaboration.

High-Level Official Visit of South Sudan’s Minister of Investment to Cairo to Strengthen Economic and Investment Cooperation
On 27 April 2026, Hon. Amb. Joseph Moum Majak, Minister of Investment of the Republic of South Sudan, arrived at Cairo International Airport accompanied by a high-level delegation, where he was warmly received by Hon. Amb. Kuol Nyok Kuol Arop, Head of Mission of the Embassy of the Republic of South Sudan in the Arab Republic of Egypt.
On 28 April 2026, Hon. the Minister, together with the accompanying delegation and in the presence of H.E. Ambassador Kuol Nyok Kuol Arop, commenced the official program of the visit with their first meeting with the leadership of the Egyptian Investment Authority as part of an official study tour to Cairo.
Later on that day, Hon. Amb. Joseph Moum Majak and his delegation held an official meeting with H.E. Eng. Hassan El-Khatib, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade of the Arab Republic of Egypt, at the Ministry’s headquarters in the New Administrative Capital.
The delegation included senior government officials from Juba.
During the meetings, both sides discussed areas of mutual interest, focusing on strengthening investment cooperation, expanding trade opportunities, and enhancing economic partnership between the two sisterly countries.
This visit comes within the framework of a study tour aimed at exchanging expertise, exploring promising investment prospects, and reinforcing bilateral cooperation.
These engagements reflect the deepening relations between the Republic of South Sudan and the Arab Republic of Egypt, as well as the shared commitment to advancing sustainable development and economic growth for the benefit of both nations.

H.E. Ambassador Kuol Nyok Kuol Arop Meets H.E. Ambassador Yasser Sorour in Cairo
On 26th April 2026, H.E. Ambassador Kuol Nyok Kuol Arop, Ambassador of the Republic of South Sudan to the Arab Republic of Egypt, held a cordial meeting with H.E. Ambassador Yasser Sorour, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs Director of the Department of Sudan and South Sudan at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Cairo.
H.E. Ambassador Kuol Nyok Kuol Arop was accompanied during the meeting by Ms. Pamela Albert, Consul of the Embassy of the Republic of South Sudan in Cairo.
During the meeting, discussions focused on issues concerning the South Sudanese community in Egypt, including the ongoing measures affecting some members of the community.
H.E. Ambassador Yasser Sorour pointed out that this crackdown for all foreigners who are residing in Egypt and they must obtain residence permits. On the hand , he expressed his understanding of the challenges faced by South Sudanese Community and assured that these concerns would be raised with the Ministry of Interior for further consideration.
He also emphasized the importance of obtaining valid residency permits, noting that all foreign nationals residing in Egypt are required to maintain legal residency status in accordance with the laws and regulations of the host country.
The meeting was held in a positive and cooperative spirit, reflecting the strong and friendly relations between South Sudan and Egypt.

Consular Visit to 15 May Correctional Facility in Helwan
On 16th April 2026, Ms. Pamela Albert [Consul], Consul at the Embassy of the Republic of South Sudan 🇸🇸 in the Arab Republic of Egypt, together with a team from the Immigration Department, conducted a consular visit to the 15 May Correctional Facility in Helwan.
During the visit, the delegation met with a number of South Sudanese nationals currently in detention. The cases reviewed indicated that the primary reasons for detention included overstaying or failure to renew residency permits, as well as irregular entry into Egypt, particularly by individuals who crossed the border during the conflict in Sudan, including in Khartoum and other areas.
The visit aimed to assess the conditions of the detainees, provide consular support, and coordinate with the relevant Egyptian authorities regarding their legal status and possible procedures.
The Embassy reiterates its call to all South Sudanese nationals in Egypt to strictly comply with the laws and regulations, particularly with regard to residency and documentation, in order to avoid legal complications.
The Embassy remains committed to supporting its citizens and working closely with the competent authorities to address such cases in accordance with the law.

H.E. Ambassador Kuol Nyok Kuol Arop Participates in Easter Prayers in Cairo
On 12th April 2026, H.E. Ambassador Kuol Nyok Kuol Arop, Ambassador of the Republic of South Sudan to the Arab Republic of Egypt, participated in Easter celebrations across Cairo.
H.E. the Ambassador attended Easter morning prayers with the South Sudanese community at the Holy Family Church in Maadi, reflecting the spirit of faith, peace, and unity that defines the Easter season.
Later in the afternoon, H.E. participated in Easter prayers at All Saints Cathedral, Zamalek, Cairo, alongside members of the South Sudanese community. During the gathering, H.E. the Ambassador addressed the community, delivering his Easter message and emphasizing the values of unity, peace, and togetherness among South Sudanese in Egypt.

H.E. Ambassador Kuol Nyok Kuol Arop Participates in Easter Prayers at St. Mark’s Cathedral
On 11th April 2026, H.E. Ambassador Kuol Nyok Kuol Arop, Ambassador of the Republic of South Sudan to the Arab Republic of Egypt, participated in the Easter Holy Liturgy held at St. Mark’s Coptic Orthodox Cathedral in Cairo.
The prayers were led by His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark, and were attended by a number of high-level dignitaries, ministers, ambassadors, and members of the diplomatic corps.
The participation of H.E. the Ambassador reflects the strong spirit of interfaith harmony, mutual respect, and the deep-rooted relations between the peoples of South Sudan and Egypt.
The occasion highlighted the values of peace, unity, and coexistence, which are especially significant during this blessed Easter season.
