Millions of years ago, powerful volcanic forces began shaping the extraordinary island of Tenerife. Deep beneath the Earth's surface, molten rock rose through the crust, creating mountains, valleys, and breathtaking volcanic landscapes that we can admire today. 🌍🌋
Mount Teide, standing at 3,715 metres above sea level, is the highest mountain in Spain and the heart of Teide National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its majestic presence tells the story of an island born from fire.
🔥 One of the most remarkable eruptions in Tenerife's history took place in 1706. The Trevejo volcano, also known as Arenas Negras, erupted near Garachico, on Tenerife's northern coast. Rivers of lava flowed down the slopes and reached the sea, burying much of the town's harbour and dramatically changing its future. Garachico had been one of the island's most important commercial ports, but the eruption transformed its coastline forever.
🌋 Another unforgettable chapter came in 1798, when the Chahorra volcano erupted on the slopes of Pico Viejo, close to Mount Teide. For approximately three months, lava poured from the volcanic vents, leaving behind vast fields of dark rock that can still be seen today. This eruption created the spectacular landscape known as the Narices del Teide — the volcanic mouths that bear witness to the immense power hidden beneath the island.
🌍 These eruptions remind us that Tenerife is much more than a paradise of beaches, palm trees, and endless sunshine. It is a living geological landscape, shaped over countless centuries by fire, lava, and the extraordinary forces of nature.
❤️ Today, visitors walk across ancient lava fields, admire the dramatic volcanic peaks, and discover a landscape unlike anywhere else in Europe. Every rock tells a story. Every mountain holds a memory. And every sunset over Teide reveals the incredible beauty of an island born from fire.

When we stop questioning the real and objective TRUTH of things and simply accept them at face value, society becomes fragmented and Reason ceases to hold any appeal.
It is then that fundamentalist positions emerge within society, presenting old ideas as something new.
Under different names and with a different dialectic and strategy, yet one that is divisive, confrontational and marks the end of a cycle.
But remember: old recipes do not yield new results.
Reform is infinitely better than revolution.

🇪🇸 Why should I register on the Padrón in Spain?

This is a question I get asked a lot by my clients, so I thought I’d give you a quick and simple explanation. 😊

🏠 What is the Padrón?

The Padrón Municipal is the local register of people living in a particular town or municipality in Spain. It is maintained by your local town hall (Ayuntamiento) and helps the authorities keep an accurate record of how many people live in the area.

❓ Do I have to register on the Padrón?

If Spain is your usual place of residence, you are generally required to register on the Padrón at your local town hall.

For example, if you live in Spain for more than six months a year, registering on the Padrón is an important part of establishing your residence here.

🔄 IMPORTANT: Don’t forget to renew!

There is something else that many foreign residents don’t realise.

If you are a non-EU citizen without long-term residence status, your Padrón registration must generally be renewed every two years.

Your Ayuntamiento may contact you when it is time to renew your registration. Don’t ignore the letter! If you don’t complete the renewal within the required period, your Padrón registration can be declared expired and you may be removed from the municipal register.

This two-year renewal requirement does not apply in the same way to everyone. For example, EU citizens and certain other foreign residents, including those with long-term residence, are not subject to the same automatic two-year renewal requirement, although the Ayuntamiento can carry out periodic checks to confirm that you still live there.

🌟 What are the benefits of registering?

Being registered on the Padrón can be important for both you and your local community.

For foreigners living in Spain, your Padrón registration can be useful or required for things such as:

✅ Applying for certain types of residency
✅ Accessing local services and healthcare where applicable
✅ Enrolling children in local schools
✅ Applying for a Spanish driving licence
✅ Registering a vehicle in Spain
✅ Accessing certain local benefits or discounts
✅ Participating in local elections when you are eligible
✅ Providing proof of residence when required

There are also many situations where you may be asked for a Padrón certificate, for example when dealing with immigration procedures, importing a vehicle or proving how long you have been living in Spain.

📌 One important point: Being registered on the Padrón does not by itself give you legal residency or immigration status. It is simply the municipal register of residents, although your registration can be an important document in many residency and administrative procedures.

I hope this makes it a little clearer why registering on the Padrón is an important step for people who come to Spain to live. 🇪🇸❤️
