"A global system designed without Africa – and still largely operating without Africa, perpetuating century-old injustices.

A continent of more than one and a half billion people, with no permanent seats on the UN Security Council.

And without the voice, representation, and decision-making power it deserves inside the international financial institutions that shape its economy.

It is not Africa that loses. It is the world that loses by the fact that the voice of Africa is not taken into account."

António Guterres, UN Secretary-General, at at the opening the Africa Forward Summit today.

UN-Habitat Executive Director Anacláudia Rossbach met with H.E. Semereta Sewasew, State Minister of Finance for Economic Cooperation of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, to discuss deepening collaboration in support of Ethiopia's affordable housing agenda.

The two principals exchanged views on Ethiopia's strong commitment to expanding housing supply at scale — a national priority with clear links to inclusive urban growth, job creation, and resilience.

Discussions focused on how UN-Habitat can support efforts to mobilize innovative financing for affordable housing, including targeted technical support for the design and rollout of a National Housing Fund.

Both sides agreed to advance this partnership under the umbrella of UN-Habitat's Africa Affordable Housing Compact — a platform that brings together governments, development finance institutions, and the private sector to unlock investment in housing.

UN-Habitat looks forward to working closely with the Government of Ethiopia to turn this shared ambition into homes, opportunities, and stronger cities for all.
