Yesterday, KAS Office Ethiopia/African Union, in partnership with Action for Humanity, launched a three-day National Expert Workshop themed "Dynamics of Children and Youth Migration in Ethiopia."

While the multi-causal drivers of migration in Ethiopia have traditionally dominated mainstream policy discourse, child and youth migration is rapidly taking on a new, more urgent dimension. Escalating violence, insecurity, and armed conflict across various hotspots in the country are fundamentally reshaping these movements, with conflict-induced displacement severely worsening existing vulnerabilities.

To address these changing dynamics, this three-day forum brings together national migration experts, legal and human rights specialists, government representatives, CSO leaders, and key international stakeholders from UN agencies and the ICRC. Together, they are collaborating to formulate actionable policy recommendations to mitigate conflict-induced child and youth migration in Ethiopia.

: Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity in Ethiopia: Mapping the Interface

This newly released policy brief, authored by Professor Kinfe Yilma, Senior Lecturer at the School of Law, University of Leeds, provides a timely and insightful analysis of the intersection between artificial intelligence and cybersecurity in Ethiopia.

As Ethiopia accelerates its digital transformation, AI is increasingly reshaping governance, economic activity, and everyday life. The brief offers a critical and forward-looking assessment of both the opportunities and risks associated with these developments. It highlights how technological innovation is advancing in parallel with growing cybersecurity threats, data protection challenges, and risks of misuse.

Importantly, the brief reframes cybersecurity as a fundamental pillar of human security, good governance, and sustainable development. It identifies key gaps in existing policy frameworks, legal regimes, and institutional capacities, underscoring the urgent need for a more coherent and robust response.

Grounded in a human-centered approach, the analysis calls for stronger safeguards, more inclusive governance structures, and enhanced coordination among government, the private sector, and civil society. Through clear and actionable recommendations, the brief provides a practical roadmap for leveraging the benefits of AI while fostering a secure, resilient, and rights-respecting digital ecosystem in Ethiopia.

Meaningful conversations on the sidelines of the GLOBSEC Forum 2026!

Former African Youth Ambassadors for Peace had the opportunity to meet with Dr. Abraham Korir Sing’Oei, Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kenya, and Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, former Federal Minister of Defence of Germany and chair of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung.

The exchanges explored global security, diplomacy, multilateralism, and the important role of youth leadership in advancing peace and international cooperation. 🤝

From Berlin to Prague

KAS Office Ethiopia/African Union also facilitated the participation of former African Youth Ambassadors for Peace at the GLOBSEC Forum 2026 in Prague from May 21–23.

The forum created a valuable space for dialogue on global security, multilateralism, democracy, emerging geopolitical trends, and the future of international cooperation. Participants also had the opportunity to engage with policymakers, experts, and young leaders from across the globe.

KAS Office Ethiopia/African Union continued its engagement programme for former African Youth Ambassadors for Peace in Berlin with a series of high-level discussions on foreign policy, security, and Africa-Europe relations on May 20, 2026.

The day began with an insightful exchange with Dr. Stefan Friedrich and representatives of the Sub-Saharan Africa Department of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, where participants explored evolving political dynamics across European Union, Africa, regional cooperation, and the role of AYAPS and youth leadership in advancing peace and democratic governance.

This was followed by a strategic dialogue with Dr. Christina Krause, Head of Department International Politics and Security Affairs, and Dr. Tilmann Feltes, Advisor on Non-European Foreign and Security Policy. Discussions focused on current geopolitical developments, multilateralism, global security challenges, and the changing international order.

The engagement provided a valuable platform for reflection, dialogue, and strengthening partnerships between emerging African peace leaders and international policy experts.

Last week, the KAS Office Ethiopia/African Union organized a special gathering in Berlin for former African Youth Ambassadors for Peace. 🌍✨

The programme opened with an engaging dialogue with Nils Wörmer, where participants discussed current developments within the European Union, emerging defence and security challenges, the future of multilateralism, and the implications of a rapidly changing global landscape.

The delegation later visited the Topography of Terror Museum, reflecting on the historical lessons of dictatorship, extremism, and conflict prevention. The day concluded with a dinner exchange alongside the Working Group of Young Foreign Policy Experts, fostering meaningful conversations on foreign policy, international cooperation, and youth engagement in global governance.

The gathering provided an important platform for reflection, exchange, and strengthening networks among young peace leaders from across the continent.

At the University of Pretoria’s Future Africa Campus, thought leaders, diplomats, academics, and policy experts are engaging in powerful conversations on “Africa’s Security Challenges in a Turbulent World.”

Co-organized by the KAS Office Ethiopia/African Union
and the Centre for the Advancement of Scholarship, University of Pretoria, the programme explores key issues shaping the continent’s future.
