The Rotary Ethiopia Peace Center is proud to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Egre Menged to strengthen collaboration in using cycling as a tool for peacebuilding, environmental awareness, youth engagement, healthy living, and community connection.

Together, we envision bicycles becoming more than transportation — but symbols of unity, dialogue, green action, and social transformation across Ethiopia and beyond.

From peace rides to environmental campaigns, community outreach, youth activities, and creative public spaces — this partnership opens a powerful road toward a more connected and peaceful society.

🇪🇹✨ Today, Rotary Club of Addis Ababa Central Mella proudly joins Ethiopia in honoring Ethiopian Patriots Day — a sacred day of remembrance for the brave sons and daughters of Ethiopia who resisted occupation and sacrificed their lives for the freedom and dignity of our nation.

Observed each year on Miazia 27 / May 5, Patriots Day commemorates the triumphant return of Emperor Haile Selassie I to Addis Ababa in 1941, marking the end of five years of occupation and the victory of Ethiopian resistance fighters whose courage preserved our sovereignty and inspired anti-colonial movements across Africa. Their legacy reminds us that freedom is never free—it is built through sacrifice, unity, and unwavering love of country.

As Rotarians, we draw inspiration from that patriotic spirit. Just as the Patriots fought to defend Ethiopia’s future, Rotary continues to serve to build it—through peacebuilding, education, health, youth empowerment, and community development. May their courage inspire us to be patriots in service: protecting not only our nation’s freedom, but its future through action, compassion, and leadership.

Happy Ethiopian Patriots Day.
May we honor their sacrifice by building the Ethiopia they dreamed of.

🌍✨ Happy International Labour Day to the Family and Friends of Rotary Ethiopia ✨🌍

As the world marks International Labour Day 2026 under the theme “Ensuring a Healthy Psychosocial Working Environment,” we are reminded that true progress is not measured only by productivity, but by the wellbeing, dignity, and humanity of every worker. In an age of burnout, stress, digital overload, and mental health challenges, the call is clear: workplaces must not only be productive—they must also be compassionate, safe, and supportive.

This message resonates deeply with Rotary in Action, because Rotary has always believed that service begins with valuing people. Whether in hospitals, schools, offices, farms, construction sites, businesses, or volunteer spaces, every person deserves dignity in labor, respect in leadership, fair opportunity, and environments that protect both body and mind.

As Rotarians, Rotaractors, and Interactors, let us lead by example—building not only stronger communities, but healthier workplaces, kinder institutions, and cultures where people thrive rather than merely survive. Service Above Self must also mean caring for the mental and emotional wellbeing of those who serve.

To every teacher, doctor, farmer, cleaner, artisan, entrepreneur, volunteer, and worker shaping a better tomorrow: we honor you today. Your labor is sacred, your contribution is valued, and your wellbeing matters.

Together, through Rotary, let us continue building a world where work is not only productive, but dignified, healthy, and filled with purpose.

We are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Behailu Bezabih, a respected artist, educator, and a pillar of the creative community at Addis Ababa University School of Fine Arts and Design.

On behalf of the Rotary Club of Addis Ababa Central Mella and the Rotary Ethiopia Peace Team, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and the entire art community.

Behailu was not only a master of his craft but also a man of humility, discipline, and generosity. His positive spirit and willingness to support others left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege to work with him. As we were establishing the Selamawi Peace Center at Alle School of Fine Arts and Design, he stood with us—encouraging, guiding, and contributing with a genuine openness that reflected his belief in art as a force for peace and unity.

Through his teaching, mentorship, and artistic vision, he shaped generations and strengthened the foundation of modern Ethiopian art. His legacy lives on not only in his works but in the many lives he touched with kindness and wisdom.

In this moment of loss, we remember him with deep gratitude and respect. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his family find strength and comfort in the profound impact he made.

With heartfelt sympathy,
Rotary Club of Addis Ababa Central Mella

✨ Art, Youth & Peace in Action ✨

On Saturday, something beautiful unfolded at Gulele Youth Center (Woreda 7). Through Niqu Expression: Art for Peace, in collaboration with the Rotary Peace Centers, we created a space where creativity became a language of peace.

With crochet, painting, and scrapbooking, young minds explored their voices—discovering that peace lives not only in words, but in creation, expression, and shared joy.

Working with 15 passionate youth—already active in sports like taekwondo—we witnessed a powerful transformation: discipline met creativity, and energy turned into expression.

It was more than a workshop…
It was a moment where art, peace, and purpose came alive together.

🪁✨ INTERACTORS RYLA – KITE MAKING AND FLYING ✨🪁

The Rotary Fellowship of Kites (RFOK) is honored to conduct a special Kite Making and Flying experience at the Interact Rotary Leadership Award (RYLA) – Next Gen Edition!

📍 Menna Abichu Valley
🗓 Sunday, February 22, 2026
⏰ Noon to Sunset

This is more than a fun outdoor activity. It is leadership in motion.

Kite making teaches creativity, patience, design thinking, and teamwork. Every frame must be balanced. Every knot must be tied with intention. Every tail must align with the wind. Just like leadership, success depends on structure, vision, and collaboration.

When a young leader launches a kite into the sky, they experience courage, confidence, and resilience. The wind may shift. The string may pull. The kite may dip. But through persistence and focus, it rises again. This is the essence of leadership — adapting to challenges while keeping your vision soaring high.

From Noon to Sunset at Menna Abichu Valley, Interactors will design, build, and fly their own symbols of aspiration. Together, we will transform the sky into a canvas of dreams, teamwork, and purpose.

Join us as we empower the next generation to lead with creativity, peace, and bold imagination.

Let’s build it.
Let’s fly it.
Let’s lead it.
