The Danish candidate to the International Criminal Court in Addis Ababa 🌍
High Court Judge and President of the Danish Association of Judges, Mette Lyster Knudsen, had the opportunity to meet with African partners and the African Union, during her visit in Addis Ababa this week.
Although an experienced traveller of the continent, this was her first visit to Ethiopia. The enthusiasm was visible, as she got to discuss her visions for the International Criminal Court (ICC) with colleagues from across the continent.
Her message was clear: Nothing could be more meaningful than ensuring the core values of the ICC – accountability, fairness, inclusion, and integrity – and to serve for justice for victims.
Judge Knudsen’s candidacy for the ICC for 2027-2036 is endorsed by all the Nordic countries.

24 February 2026, marks the fourth year of the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine – and every day since, Ukraine has been fighting a brave battle for their own and Europe's security.
In the midst of war – and with support from Denmark – young Ukrainians are reclaiming their rights to be young and to be heard. The Ukrainian-Danish Youth Houses in Kyiv and Mykolaiv offer spaces for free speech, political dialogue, culture and community.
The Youth Houses help youngsters meet and connect 🇺🇦 because young people need both safety and shared purpose. They need hope and ways to influence their future.
Did you know that the Danish support to Ukraine amounts to a total of approximately EUR 10.8 billion? This makes Denmark the largest provider of military support to Ukraine relative to population and the 4th largest contributor in absolute numbers.

💧Intern on a mission: Strengthening climate-resilient WASH solutions in Sidama💧
This week, the Danish Embassy’s Programme Officer and Therese, intern in the Climate Team, travelled to Hawassa in the Sidama Region on an implementation and support mission under the Ethiopian ONE WASH National Programme – the world’s largest Water, Sanitation & Hygiene programme.
In Sidama, communities continue facing acute water supply challenges, serving as a stark reminder of how essential sustainable and climate-resilient interventions are. The mission clearly showcased how coordinated efforts materialize into tangible improvements in people’s daily lives. Today, the ONE WASH National Programme Phase II directly benefits 3.86 million people by creating access to clean water.
Denmark is proud also to be supporting the upcoming OWNP Phase III with a strong focus on transitioning from diesel-powered to electricity/solar-powered water supply systems for sustainable service delivery 🌍
❗️If you are curious about Danish development cooperation, check out the Embassy’s call for interns for fall 2026. You can read more about the internships and criteria for applications here: https://etiopien.um.dk/en/about-us/internship

🌾 Empowering communities in the Somali region through sustainable agriculture 🌾
This weekend, the Embassy visited some of the districts, where Denmark is supporting displaced communities and migrants to be self-reliant as part of our effort to strengthen Humanitarian–Development–Peace nexus activities. By engaging communities in agricultural value chains, our partner Agricultural Transformation Institute (ATI) is creating durable solutions that are transforming lives, benefiting both displaced and host communities.
So far, more than 33.000 community members across Babile, Gode and Berano woredas have gained access to improved livelihoods through ATI’s project, which includes irrigation schemes, goat breeding and fattening, and agricultural one stop shops. During our visit, we witnessed first-hand how the empty and dry fields, we saw in December last year, have transformed into rich harvests!
In Berano woreda, farmers, who are engaged in irrigated agriculture, have formed the first Farmers Production Cluster. This allows them to save and invest in agricultural machinery and equipment, thereby accelerating their transition into agribusiness. This is a powerful testament to how sustainable agriculture can provide long-term, durable solutions for communities facing protracted displacement. We are hoping to reach 10 additional woredas this year.
Together, we are building resilience, creating opportunities, and empowering communities for a better future 🌱🌍

A New Chapter Begins: Welcome To Denmark 🇩🇰
Ahead of their journey to Denmark, the Danish Ambassador to Ethiopia, Sune Krogstrup, met with the Eritrean women and children who are being resettled to Denmark under the UN resettlement programme 🇺🇳
Prior to resettlement, the women and children have sought safety in Ethiopia, where they have lived for shorter or longer periods. The meeting marked an important and emotional moment for the refugees before their departure and highlighted Denmark’s long-standing commitment to international refugee protection 🙏
Since 1979, Denmark has offered resettlement to refugees in cooperation with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the International Organization for Migration. The UN resettlement programme focuses on some of the world’s most vulnerable refugees; people who cannot safely return to their country of origin.
Denmark continues to be a strong and reliable supporter of the United Nations and its humanitarian efforts. The reception of quota refugees reflects Denmark’s ongoing commitment to shared international responsibility and durable solutions for refugees 🇺🇳 📣
