Ambo Agricultural Research Center Transfers Dairy Cows to Farmers
*****************************
Ambo ARC, March 07, 2026 G.C.
The Ambo Agricultural Research Center, under the Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research, conducted a program to transfer high-yielding dairy cattle to farmers, aimed at benefiting the farming community. The event took place at the Center's Ginchii Sub-Center, attended by research center officials, government executive officials from Ambo and Dandi districts, and local elders.
In his welcome address, Dr. Jemal Tola Horo, Director of the Ambo Agricultural Research Center, stated that since its establishment, the Center has achieved successful outcomes, particularly in plant protection research and various other fields, attaining the status of a center of excellence. He noted that it is also renowned in the region for its commendable work in animal research. Dr. Jemal added that today's event marks the transfer of 13 improved dairy cows, with a blood level ranging from 50-87%, to 13 farmers. This demonstrates the practical significance of ensuring farmers benefit from the success achieved in the animal research sector.

In his opening speech, Professor Nigussie Dechassa, Director General of the Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research (EIAR), stated that among the Institute's 23 research centers, Ambo ARC is one that diligently works to ensure the government's agricultural development goals. He emphasized that the Center's success, after sustained effort, in transferring these high-yielding dairy cows to farmers is a highly commendable achievement, practically demonstrating the realization of its research objectives.
Dr. Tesfaye Abera, Director of the Ginchii Sub-Center at Ambo Agricultural Research Center, for his part, expressed that as an animal researcher, being able to finally transfer these productive dairy cows to farmers after much hard work and unwavering collaboration from all sides is a testament to the success of the Institute and the sector.
Finally, during a joint discussion session held at the end, the beneficiary farmers expressed their gratitude and admiration, stating that the Ambo Agricultural Research Center has made a significant contribution to the effectiveness of their work and the improvement of their livelihoods across all research sectors.
More than 2 million Birr was invested to raise the cows to this standard.
