On 4 June, the Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Fiji, Hiroshi Tajima, paid a courtesy call on Fiji Police Force Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu.
During the meeting, Ambassador Tajima conveyed his deep appreciation and respect for the dedicated police officers who work tirelessly, day and night, to uphold law and order, ensure regional security, and keep communities safe. He also thanked the Fiji Police Force for their continued support in safeguarding Japanese residents and visitors in Fiji.
The Ambassador reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to working closely with Fiji under Japan’s updated Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP) initiative, promoting cooperation across a range of areas to support a peaceful, stable, and prosperous Pacific region.

On 4 June, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Fiji, H.E. Hiroshi Tajima, paid a courtesy call on Major General Jone Kalouniwai, Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces.
During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the Pacific region and highlighted that close cooperation between Japan and Fiji remains indispensable in achieving this shared objective.
Ambassador Tajima also conveyed Japan’s commitment, under its updated Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP) initiative, to continue supporting Fiji, including through Official Security Assistance (OSA).
As trusted partners, Japan and Fiji will continue working together to promote a secure, stable, and prosperous Pacific region.

On 1 June, the Ambassador of Japan to Fiji, H.E. Mr. Hiroshi Tajima, paid a courtesy call on the Minister for i-Taukei Affairs, Culture, Heritage and Arts, Hon. Ifereimi Vasu.
During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed the strong and enduring friendship between Fiji and Japan, which has continued to flourish since the establishment of diplomatic relations in the 1970s. Built on mutual respect and shared democratic values, the partnership has expanded across many sectors for the benefit of both nations.
Minister Vasu expressed his appreciation for Japan’s longstanding support to Fiji, particularly in areas such as disaster response, healthcare, and infrastructure development.
A notable example of this cooperation is the recent enhancement of the Centre for Appropriate Technology and Development (CATD), where a newly furnished classroom building and dormitory were handed over last September. Ambassador Tajima expressed his hope that these improved facilities will provide a better learning environment and create greater opportunities for Fiji’s young people.
🌱 The discussions also focused on challenges facing i-Taukei communities and reaffirmed a shared commitment to working together to promote the well-being, rights, and future development of i-Taukei people.

On 1 June, the Ambassador of Japan to Fiji, H.E. Mr. Hiroshi Tajima, paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Justice and Acting Attorney-General, Hon. Siromi Turaga.
During the meeting, Ambassador Tajima highlighted the steady progress of bilateral cooperation in the legal sector, including the Fiji–Japan Strategic Dialogue on Law and Justice. Discussions also underscored the importance of strengthening the institutional capacity and capability of Fiji’s governance and judicial bodies in upholding the rule of law, as outlined in the Fiji–Japan Lomavata-Kizuna Partnership signed by both Prime Ministers in November 2025.
The Ambassador also introduced a range of ongoing Japanese-supported initiatives in Fiji, including programmes related to drug prevention and correctional services.
Minister Turaga welcomed Japan’s longstanding partnership and expressed his commitment to further deepening legal cooperation between Fiji and Japan.

Groundbreaking (First Concrete Pouring) Ceremony – Ratu Sauvoli Memorial School
A significant milestone was reached yesterday with the Groundbreaking (First Concrete Pouring) Ceremony for the new three-classroom building at Ratu Sauvoli Memorial School in Nabudrau, Noco, Rewa.
This exciting project, made possible through the support of the Government and the People of Japan, through its Grants for Grassroot and Human Security Projects, will greatly enhance the learning environment for over 260 students from surrounding villages and communities. The new classrooms will help address overcrowding and provide a safer, more comfortable space for teaching and learning.
The ceremony was officiated by H.E. Hiroshi TAJIMA, Ambassador of Japan to Fiji, and the Honorable Aseri RADRODRO, Minister for Education, marking the beginning of construction for this important One 3 classroom building.
