🍾 Commemorating Ratu Sukuna Day at the Department of Culture, Heritage & Arts 🇫🇯

Yesterday,, the Department of Culture, Heritage & Arts proudly commemorated "Ratu Sukuna Day" with a wonderful gathering that brought together learning, reflection, and fellowship.

The celebration began with a delicious lunch thoughtfully arranged by our senior staff, creating an opportunity for colleagues to connect and share in the spirit of the occasion. Following lunch, staff were privileged to attend an insightful lecture on the life and legacy of Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna, delivered by one of our most senior Provincial Cultural Development Officer, Mr. Ilaitia Senikuraciri. His presentation highlighted Ratu Sukuna’s visionary leadership, dedication to service, and enduring contributions to Fiji's development and cultural identity.

The discussions did not end there. Staff later shared their own reflections on Ratu Sukuna’s values and explored how his principles of leadership, unity, integrity, and service can continue to guide the work of the Department of Culture, Heritage & Arts as we move forward in preserving and promoting Fiji’s rich cultural heritage.

And of course, no Fijian discussion is ever truly complete without gathering around the tanoa. As ideas flowed around the yaqona bowl, so did the laughter, wisdom, and friendly debates. Some say the best policies are born in meeting rooms—but today we were reminded that a few excellent ideas also emerge between the first and third bilo! 😄

As we reflect on Ratu Sukuna’s legacy, we are inspired to continue working together with purpose, respect, and commitment to the people and cultures we serve.

Vinaka vakalevu to everyone who contributed to making the day meaningful and memorable.

"It's not goodbye but see you again soon".
No words can express the Department of Culture, Heritage & Arts deep gratitude to the Ministry of itaukei Affairs for appreciating, acknowledging and guiding the culture sector to many of its milestone and achievement within the last 3 years.

The Director highlighted that without the steadfast leadership and support of the Hon. Minister Vasu, the Assistant Minister Tuiwailevu, the Permanent Secretary, and Senior Management, the cavuisausau of culture sector institutions was not possible.

Minister Vasu was a father figure to the sector and devoted time to engage and ensure that while staff well being is critical, foremost it is the aspirations and needs of our stakeholders, our people and the vanua that matter most.

We look forward to working with leadership in our new line Ministry.
