The Ministry successfully facilitated the election of Committee Members for the Field 4 and Tore informal settlements as part of the ongoing Informal Settlement Upgrading Programme.
The election of community representatives marks an important milestone in strengthening community participation and ensuring residents have a direct voice in the planning and implementation of upgrading works within their settlements.
The newly elected committees will work closely with the Ministry and relevant stakeholders to support community engagement, coordinate settlement activities, and assist in advancing infrastructure and housing improvement initiatives for the benefit of all residents.
The Ministry congratulates the newly elected committee members and acknowledges the active participation and cooperation of residents throughout the election process. Through strong partnerships and community leadership, we continue to work towards creating safer, more resilient, and inclusive living environments for all Fijians.

The Ministry of Housing, in collaboration with the Asian Development Bank (ADB), successfully conducted the Suva Validation and Co-Design Workshop under the Informal Settlement Study initiative.
The workshop brought together key Government stakeholders to validate research findings and collaboratively develop strategic recommendations aimed at strengthening informal settlement upgrading and promoting inclusive, climate-resilient urban development in Fiji.
Participants engaged in meaningful discussions on aligning future interventions with national priorities, identifying practical solutions, and exploring potential pilot initiatives that will support sustainable and resilient communities.
The Ministry acknowledges the valuable contributions from all participating ministries, agencies, and partners whose insights will help shape future housing and urban development initiatives for the benefit of all Fijians.

🏘️ Building Together for a Resilient Pacific
Today, the Honourable Minister for Housing and Local Government, Maciu Katamotu Nalumisa, delivered Fiji’s keynote address at the Pacific Housing Forum 2026 under the theme: “Building Together: Partnerships and Pathways for Resilient Pacific Housing.”
In his address, the Hon. Minister reaffirmed Government’s commitment to ensuring that every Fijian has access to safe, adequate, affordable, and climate-resilient housing. He highlighted that housing is not only a basic human right, but also a foundation for financial security, social wellbeing, and resilience against climate change.
The Forum provided an important platform for Pacific leaders, development partners, civil society, and the private sector to discuss shared housing challenges across the region including informal settlements, housing affordability, climate vulnerability, and sustainable urban development.
The Hon. Minister also highlighted Fiji’s newly launched National Housing Policy 2025–2030, which focuses on:✅ Increasing housing supply and affordability✅ Expanding access to housing for low-income families✅ Strengthening climate resilience and green housing initiatives✅ Enhancing partnerships and evidence-based planning
The Ministry continues to advance initiatives such as the Informal Settlement Upgrading Programme (ISUP), first-home ownership assistance, and strategic partnerships aimed at creating inclusive and sustainable communities throughout Fiji.
As we move forward, collaboration remains key to building a resilient Pacific where every family has a safe and dignified place to call home.

A Milestone for Housing in Fiji – Koroipita Model Town
The Ministry of Housing was proud to co-officiate the official opening of K4 homes and the groundbreaking of K5 development at Koroipita Model Town in Lautoka.
This milestone reflects Government’s continued dedication to delivering inclusive, resilient, and affordable housing, guided by our national development priorities and housing policy frameworks. It also demonstrates the power of strong partnerships with the Model Towns Charitable Trust and the Government of New Zealand, working together to uplift communities.
Through this initiative, over 200 families have already been provided with homes that offer not just shelter, but stability, dignity, and opportunity. Koroipita continues to stand as a model of holistic community development, supporting education, livelihoods, and self-reliance.
Government remains committed to investing in social housing, with sustained funding allocated each year to expand access for those who need it most.
We extend our sincere appreciation to all partners, stakeholders, and the Koroipita community for their resilience and shared vision.

20/03 GROUNDBREAKING – NABARE INFORMAL SETTLEMENT UPGRADING PROJECT 🇫🇯🏡
A new milestone for the Nabare community in Vitogo, Lautoka.
The Ministry proudly launched the Nabare Informal Settlement Upgrading Project, a major investment in safer, more resilient, and sustainable living for Fijian families.
This transformative project will deliver:�✅ 114 fully serviced residential lots�✅ Improved roads, drainage, and water & sanitation systems�✅ Secure and planned infrastructure for 154 households�✅ A development investment of $8.57 million
This milestone is made possible through the partnership and goodwill of the Land Owning Unit, our development partners, TLTB, Government agencies, contractors Viti Vanua Holding Pte Ltd, and consultants Weseng Consulting Ltd.

21/03 GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY – DELAISAWENI INFORMAL SETTLEMENT
A new chapter of hope and progress begins for the families of Delaisaweni Settlement in Lautoka.
The Ministry was honoured to officiate the groundbreaking of the $10.66 million Delaisaweni Upgrading Project, an important milestone that reflects Government’s commitment to improving the living conditions of Fijian families living in informal settlements.
This major infrastructure development, to be delivered by Mobile Crane Hire Pte Limited, will include upgraded access roads, improved drainage systems, and other essential services that will support a safer, healthier, and more sustainable community.
The project aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 11 and supports the priorities of Fiji’s National Development Plan, ensuring that all Fijians have access to resilient communities, secure land tenure, and dignified housing.
We acknowledge with gratitude the support of the landowners, our development partners, the project consultants Weseng Consulting Ltd, government agencies, and most importantly, the Delaisaweni community for their cooperation and partnership.
The event marks the beginning of new opportunities, stronger communities, and a more resilient future for the families of Delaisaweni.

The Ministry of Housing was privileged to be part of the Retreat for the Divisional Superintendents and Chief Stewards of the Methodist Church. 🤝
During the retreat, the Ministry conducted an awareness session on the various housing programs implemented by the Ministry and its statutory bodies, including the Housing Authority and the Public Rental Board.
Participants were informed about the processes involved in securing land and accessing the First Home Owners Grant. Our team also set up an awareness booth where pamphlets and building plans were shared with members seeking further information.
The Ministry remains committed to ensuring that more Fijians are informed and supported in their journey towards home ownership. 🏡
