Community-Consultation Underway

The Fiji Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Commission has begun its first round of community consultations for the Baseline Study on the Rights of Children with Disabilities.

Consultations were held last week in Ra, in collaboration with the Fiji Disabled Peoples Federation (FDPF], with the team holding consultations in Naitasiri this week.

These consultations are creating space for communities across Fiji to share their experiences and insights on the realities faced by children with disabilities. Through separate focus group discussions with men and women, the Commission is hearing directly about the challenges children face, as well as practical ways support systems can be strengthened and outcomes improved.

Alongside the community consultations, the Baseline Study Research Team is also commencing family and child interviews, guided by ethical research practices to ensure that children are heard in a safe, respectful, and meaningful way.

📍Preliminary findings will be released by June 2026.
