Today, the Ministry of Forestry officially received USD $155,000 worth of advanced scientific equipment from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to support our upcoming Planted Forest Policy.

From drones for canopy mapping to advanced climate research tools, this high-tech equipment will revolutionize how we monitor forest health, test soil chemistry, and keep our field teams safe. 🛰️🔬

Our Ministry of Forestry staff recently traveled to Driti Village, Tikina Dama in the Bua Province, teaming up with the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) to conduct a vital training workshop focused on protecting Fiji's natural resources!

Our team led presentations for the community, breaking down 4 crucial areas for our environment:
1️⃣ Sustainable Forest & Watershed Management – Why safeguarding our water catchments is vital for our future.
2️⃣ Forest Ecosystems & Biodiversity – Understanding the powerful connection between our terrestrial land and marine ecosystems. What happens on land in Dama impacts our reefs!
3️⃣ Fiji Laws & Regulations – Diving deep into legal requirements and environmental responsibilities regarding land clearing, burning, and protecting our watersheds.
4️⃣ Agroforestry & Climate Resilience – How mixing agriculture with trees protects biodiversity, offers alternative livelihoods, and promotes Reduced Impact Logging (RIL).

A huge vinaka vakalevu to the community of Driti and to WCS for coordinating this event. Together, we are equipping our communities with the knowledge to fight climate change and protect our beautiful home. 🇫🇯🌿

Development efforts continue to gain momentum at Tiliva Village in Nakasaleka, Kadavu, as work progresses under the Integrated approach collaboration between the Ministry of Forestry and Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management

This initiative is part of the ongoing development efforts championed by the Minister for Forestry, Hon. Alitia Bainivalu MP, following her recent tour of Kadavu during the International Day of Forests Week celebrations.

The Ministry of Forestry wishes to advise members of the public that the Colo-i-Suva Forest Park is temporarily closed until further notice due to adverse weather conditions affecting the area.

This precautionary measure has been taken to ensure the safety of all visitors as heavy rainfall may increase the risk of slippery tracks, falling branches, flash flooding, and unsafe conditions within the park.

The Ministry kindly requests the public to avoid entering the park during this period and to comply with all safety advisories issued by authorities.

An update will be provided once weather conditions improve and the park is deemed safe for reopening.

We thank the public for their understanding and cooperation as public safety remains our top priority.

RAKIRAKI, FIJI — MAY 2026, The Ministry of Forestry, in collaboration with Conservation International Fiji, is thrilled to highlight a significant advancement in the Rakiraki Reforestation Program. Through a strategic partnership with local vendors, two major consignments of seedlings have been successfully delivered and offloaded at the Conservation International Nursery in Rakiraki, signaling a new chapter in the region’s ecological restoration.

Mr. Sanyay Dutt recently shared why "Plant Health" matters so much for our forestry sector. Just like people, forests can get sick from pests and diseases. By monitoring our trees and managing them sustainably, we can protect our biodiversity and make sure our environment stays strong for our children and grandchildren. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦🌳

FIJI’S GREEN FUTURE: DAY 2 OF THE INAUGURAL BAMBOO TRAINING OF TRAINERS

Yesterday, the Deputy Conservator of Forests - Research & Development Tevita Bulai officially launched Fiji's inaugural Training of Trainers (TOT) for Bamboo Development Modules 1 and 2 at the Rain Tree Lodge, marking a pivotal step in elevating this "traditional" plant into a "modern" solution for the nation’s green economy.
