Today, the Ministry of Forestry officially received USD $155,000 worth of advanced scientific equipment from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to support our upcoming Planted Forest Policy.

From drones for canopy mapping to advanced climate research tools, this high-tech equipment will revolutionize how we monitor forest health, test soil chemistry, and keep our field teams safe. ๐Ÿ›ฐ๏ธ๐Ÿ”ฌ

A huge Vinaka vakalevu to the FAO Pacific team for empowering our sustainable forestry goals!

Our Ministry of Forestry staff recently traveled to Driti Village, Tikina Dama in the Bua Province, teaming up with the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) to conduct a vital training workshop focused on protecting Fiji's natural resources!

Our team led presentations for the community, breaking down 4 crucial areas for our environment:
1๏ธโƒฃ Sustainable Forest & Watershed Management โ€“ Why safeguarding our water catchments is vital for our future.
2๏ธโƒฃ Forest Ecosystems & Biodiversity โ€“ Understanding the powerful connection between our terrestrial land and marine ecosystems. What happens on land in Dama impacts our reefs!
3๏ธโƒฃ Fiji Laws & Regulations โ€“ Diving deep into legal requirements and environmental responsibilities regarding land clearing, burning, and protecting our watersheds.
4๏ธโƒฃ Agroforestry & Climate Resilience โ€“ How mixing agriculture with trees protects biodiversity, offers alternative livelihoods, and promotes Reduced Impact Logging (RIL).

A huge vinaka vakalevu to the community of Driti and to WCS for coordinating this event. Together, we are equipping our communities with the knowledge to fight climate change and protect our beautiful home. ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐ŸŒฟ

The Ministry of Forestry wishes to advise members of the public that the Colo-i-Suva Forest Park is temporarily closed until further notice due to adverse weather conditions affecting the area.

This precautionary measure has been taken to ensure the safety of all visitors as heavy rainfall may increase the risk of slippery tracks, falling branches, flash flooding, and unsafe conditions within the park.

The Ministry kindly requests the public to avoid entering the park during this period and to comply with all safety advisories issued by authorities.

An update will be provided once weather conditions improve and the park is deemed safe for reopening.

We thank the public for their understanding and cooperation as public safety remains our top priority.

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY๐Ÿ€

To the women who nurture our families and our land. Just as a forest thrives under careful stewardship, our communities grow stronger through your guidance and dedication. Thank you for planting the seeds of a sustainable future for us all.

Our forests are the lungs of our islands, but they need our help to stay healthy! ๐ŸŒฟ

Mr. Sanyay Dutt recently shared why "Plant Health" matters so much for our forestry sector. Just like people, forests can get sick from pests and diseases. By monitoring our trees and managing them sustainably, we can protect our biodiversity and make sure our environment stays strong for our children and grandchildren. ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ๐ŸŒณ

FIJIโ€™S GREEN FUTURE: DAY 2 OF THE INAUGURAL BAMBOO TRAINING OF TRAINERS

Yesterday, the Deputy Conservator of Forests - Research & Development Tevita Bulai officially launched Fiji's inaugural Training of Trainers (TOT) for Bamboo Development Modules 1 and 2 at the Rain Tree Lodge, marking a pivotal step in elevating this "traditional" plant into a "modern" solution for the nationโ€™s green economy.

The second day of planting in Tonia Village dawned with a renewed sense of purpose. Following the momentum of their initial efforts, the Mataqali Buremaci returned to the 20-hectare restoration site in Tailevu Province, but today, the hills felt even more alive.

The team was joined by the local school students and children, whose small hands worked alongside the Mataqali members to tuck native and fruit trees into the fertile soil.

In a beautiful tribute to the nurturers of their own lives, they took a moment to look beyond the hills of Tailevu. With the same care and devotion they give to the land, the entire team paused to send a heartfelt message across the islands, wishing all the hardworking and resilient mothers of Fiji a very Happy Motherโ€™s Day.

Just as these mothers nurture the next generation, the Mataqali and their children are nurturing the โ€œRoots of the Futureโ€ for all of Fiji to enjoy.
