Week 3 Wrapped & Week 4 Underway!
Our Artisanal Weaving workshop is moving at a fantastic pace! Our participants have officially reached a major milestone in their training journey.
We are thrilled to announce that the participants have successfully completed their grass skirts! Seeing these traditional garments finished is a testament to the hard work and focus everyone has poured into the first two weeks.
π§Ί The Next Challenge: Basket Weaving
With the skirts completed, the group is now transitioning into weaving local baskets. While each new technique brings its own set of complexities, the class is currently:
On Schedule: Progress is aligned perfectly with our training timeline.
Highly Engaged: The atmosphere is energetic, and itβs clear that deep learning is taking place every day.
Focused: The big challenge now is maintaining this incredible momentum as the weaving patterns become more intricate.
π Learning with a Smile
Beyond the technical skills, the best part of this workshop has been the joy of the process. The participants are truly enjoying the experience, sharing stories as they weave, and reviving these essential artisanal skills.

π£ Project Update: Traditional Fish Trap Training
We are officially one month into our Traditional Skills Development program, and the craftsmanship on display is truly impressive! Our Traditional Skills Development Coordinator recently visited the training site in Maap to check in on our dedicated participants.
π Field Visit Highlights
Last week, our team met with the trainer and six active trainees who are deep into the intricate process of building traditional fish traps.
π οΈ Construction Status
The trainees have officially moved past the foundational stage and are making steady progress on the structural integrity of their traps:
-->Completed: The floor of the traps.
-->In Progress: Trainees are currently weaving the side and top walls.
-->Next Steps: The upcoming phase involves crafting the entrance (opening), followed by the final step of completing the end walls.
π‘ The Art of Patience
While the work of tying these traps is incredibly intricate and demands high levels of concentration, our trainees are rising to the challenge. Despite the complexity of the knots and the precision required, everyone is on track and moving forward with great momentum.
Everything is looking good as we head into the final stages of construction. Stay tuned for more updates as these traditional tools come to life!
