Wang Yan Cheng , Jardin du jazz, Huile sur toile, 120 x 120 cm
Wang Yan Cheng is a contemporary Chinese painter who lives and works in France. His paintings are characterized by their blurred, meditative abstract shapes and compositions, shifting between landscape and portraiture that display the influence of traditional Chinese aesthetics. Born in Guandong Province, China on January 9, 1960, Cheng's career is marked by several stages of education, wherein he first studied at the Shandong Institute of Fine Arts in 1985, the Chinese Central Institute of Fine Arts in 1988, and then graduated from the Saint-Etienne Plastic Arts University in 1992. Achieving critical and commercial acclaim, Cheng was commissioned to adorn the Beijing Opera with his art in 2007. In 2015, the French government honored the artist with the title of Commander of the Order of Arts and Letters for his contributions to visual culture.
