On 29th May 2026, Tennis Kenya officially signed a strategic partnership with the French Tennis Federation to improve local infrastructure and promote knowledge transfer and capacity building.

The signing of the Bilateral Agreement took place in Paris on the sidelines of the French Open at Roland-Garros and is projected to reshape the trajectory of professional tennis in Kenya.

The Agreement was signed by Ms. Wanjiru Mbugua Karani, President of the Kenya Tennis Federation, and Mr. Gilles Moretton, President of the French Tennis Federation.

Also present during the ceremony was Kenya’s Ambassador to France, Amb. Betty Cherwon, who hailed the partnership and acknowledged that it bolsters Kenya’s commitment to promoting sports diplomacy, especially amongst the youth. Ministry of Foreign Affairs Kenya

We explored new opportunities to strengthen regional cooperation and expand economic partnerships.

This included the critical role of the African Trade & Investment Development Insurance in de-risking investment, catalysing trade, and accelerating Africa’s development agenda.

We also discussed preparations for next year’s Indian Ocean Island Games and the power of sport in advancing regional unity and unlocking opportunities for the youth.
