Last week, children got to learn a little about the Eurovision Song Contest! The grand final 2026 was on Saturday and it was the 70th anniversary of the competition.
We learned about the history of the competition and that it was started to bring people together through music after World War 2. This links with our Catholic Social Teaching of solidarity.
The winner is chosen through a voting system which links with our British Value of democracy. Lots of countries with different cultures and languages are invited to compete which makes it very diverse and inclusive so we linked this to our British value of mutual respect.
But more importantly, we had fun hearing a range of Eurovision songs and singing and dancing along! Did you watch at the weekend?

Year 3 were very lucky to get a place at the Wigan Borough Dance Festival recently. They had spent their PE lessons throughout spring term learning a dance to perform with a dance instructor. On the day of the festival, we spent the day taking part in dance workshops and rehearsals for the evening show. We also learnt a new dance with all the other schools that were there, which was for the show's finale! It was a truly amazing experience for all involved!
This was our Catholic Social Teaching values in action - Solidarity. Solidarity of staff across school working together, solidarity of parents supporting school and bringing children to perform in the evening show and the coming together of schools from across the borough.

Before Easter, Year 3 took some time to thank some of the people around school that help us. These people don't always get the recognition and the thanks that they deserve, so we wanted them to know how much staff and pupils appreciate them!
Everyday, they take action for the common good in the work that they do.
Matthew 25:40
“Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”

On Thursday the whole school stopped to remember St Joseph on his feast day. We started the day going to Mass, our children behaved brilliantly and made us so proud with reading and singing. Back at school each class then learnt about St Joseph and what values he taught us.
We also linked this into being part of St Joseph Catholic Multi Academy Trust and what this means to us as a school.
At the end of the day, children from each class presented their learning and shared what they had learnt about and from St Joseph.
