Congleton Mayor Making Thursday 21st May 2026
I was proud to represent Alsager in my first civic duty as Mayor at the Mayor Making ceremony held at Congleton Town Hall on 21 May 2026. It was a truly stunning event.
Congratulations are extended to the newly installed Mayor of Congleton, Cllr Suzy Firkin, who took office at a colourful ceremony in the historic Town Hall, attended by invited guests and the Mayor of Alsager as part of the evening’s celebrations to mark the start of the new civic year.

Mayor of Alsager – Councillor Pauline Hubbard
At the Annual Town Council Meeting held on 19 May, Councillor Pauline Hubbard was formally appointed as Mayor of Alsager.
Councillor Hubbard brings a strong sense of dedication, community spirit, and commitment to serving the residents of Alsager.
Throughout her work on the council, she has shown passion for local issues and a genuine desire to make a positive difference.
As Mayor, Councillor Hubbard looks forward to representing the town, supporting local initiatives, and strengthening the sense of pride and community across Alsager. Her year in office promises to be one of engagement, collaboration, and continued progress for the town.
We congratulate Councillor Pauline Hubbard on her appointment and wish her every success in her mayoral year.

AGA ALSAGER ALLOTMENTS OPEN DAY
Cllr Michael Unett, the Mayor of Alsager, attended this last weekend the Alsager Gardens Association Allotments Open Day at the Cedar Avenue Allotments.
This was a wonderful event highlighting the work of the AGA, allotment holders and what our town’s allotment sites offer.
The Mayor was delighted walking around the site and speaking to some allotment holders. The Mayor also helped to draw the raffle.
The Town Council owns the allotment sites but the day to day management is devolved to the Alsager Gardens Association.

STROKE SURVIVORS & THE KINGS AWARD
The Mayor of Alsager, Cllr Michael Unett, was delighted to join with fellow Mayors to attend the official presentation of The King’s Award for Voluntary Service to the Stroke Survivors Speech & Language Group.
This prestigious award is the MBE for voluntary organisations and recognises the tremendous service that the Stroke Survivors Group does for people in Cheshire, with local groups in Alsager, Crewe, Sandbach, Middlewich, Nantwich and more.
The Lord Lieutenant of Cheshire Lady Redmond presented the award to CEO Liz Bedson and her team and each volunteer got their own official commemorative pin badge.
The local Mayors of each town in area attended to support their local Stroke Survivors Group.
Cllr Michael Unett congratulated Stroke Survivors and paid tribute to their work, highlighting the dedication and service that the Alsager Group does for people in our town.
“A massive congratulations to Stroke Survivors for the Kings Award, it is throughly deserved for all the hard work of the organisers and volunteers. The positive impact they have on people is immense. And it is a joy to see how much good work and how far the group has come since it officially opened in 2022”.
Cllr Michael Unett was there at the official opening of the Stroke Survivors Group back in 2022 at the 13 Club when he previously served as the Chairman of Alsager Town Council.

CIVIC AWARDS
In April the Mayor of Alsager, Cllr Michael Unett, was delighted to present the Civic Awards alongside local MP Sarah Russell.
The Mayor’s Civic Awards are an opportunity to celebrate the individuals and groups who do extraordinary work to help others and contribute positively to life in Alsager.
They are decided by the Mayor & Mayor’s team and nominated for by the public.

Community Award – Alsager Civic Lunch Club

The awards took place at the Mayor’s Charity Quiz which helped to raise money for Alsager Foodbank and Cancer Research UK.

CHESHIRE EAST MAYOR MAKING
Congratulations to Cllr Judy Snowball who was invested as the Mayor of Cheshire East at the Mayor Making Ceremony today at Tatton Park. Congratulations also to Cllr Rob Morton who became Deputy Mayor.
And a big thank you and well done to Cllr David Edwardes, the outgoing Mayor, for his year in office.
The Mayor of Alsager, Cllr Michael Unett, was proud to attend to represent Alsager and Alsager Town Council along with many other local Mayors and civic dignitaries.

Alsager Town Council has signed up to the Civility & Respect Pledge. Alsager Town Council believes now is the time to put Civility and Respect at the Top of the Agenda and start a culture change for the local council sector.
The Pledge allows local councils to demonstrate a commitment to stand up to poor behaviour across the sector and enforce positive changes that support civil and respectful conduct.

MAYOR OF CONGLETON’S CHARITY BALL
Recently the Mayor of Alsager, Cllr Michael Unett, attended the Mayor of Congleton Cllr Robert Brittain’s Charity Ball.
This was a fantastic event in the beautiful Congleton Town Hall raising funds for Mentell, Visyon and Circus Starr with lots of local dignitaries in attendance.
An extra special event for Cllr Unett not only having the honour of representing his hometown of Alsager at the event but also having previously been a resident in Congleton over 11 years ago.

MAYOR OF BOLLINGTON’S CHARITY DINNER
The Mayor of Alsager, Cllr Michael Unett, was delighted to attend the Mayor of Bollington’s Charity Dinner representing Alsager.
It was a brilliant evening attended by the Mayors of Congleton & Poynton and by local MP Tim Roca, all in aid of raising funds for East Cheshire Hospice & Canalside Community Radio Phase One Charity.
