Northumberland Hatchery
The Northumberland lobster hatchery has been set up to help enhance and conserve our local European lobster population. We think she needs a little help!
A female lobster can carry upwards of 20,000 eggs under her body for over 9 months and after all that effort it is thought only one egg will survive to adulthood. The Northumberland Seafood Centre within the Harbour Village; houses all the holding tanks, larvae tanks and juvenile tanks alongside all the required chillers, filters and pumps to create a fully operational hatchery for the Northumberl
Our Hatchery is closed for the winter period.
We will be open again in the spring when the lobsters started hatching once again.
You will then find the hatchery layout will have changed too. We are re-designing the Seafood Centre during this quiet period.
Looking forward to seeing you all later in the year.
